been everywhere but now i'm here
I read this thread and am still laughing. If an agent can't use proper grammar, syntax, spelling et., then keep away. Still, I'm glad it was here to keep us from being duped.

At the risk of breaking the 'respect your fellow author' rule, I have to admit that I'd love to read Murray's self-published book The Death of Lisa. Sadly there's no 'look inside' feature on the xlibris site but the blurb has Murray's fingerprints all over it:

An unthinkable act has occurred in an upscale suburban area in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.A six month old girl was murder. During the investigation, Shelia discover another murder, conspiracy to murder and stolen identities. To save her client, she will have to move fast against the power of the court. Shelia, and her friends racing against time will leave no stone unturned to find the murder of six month old Lisa. As the investigation proceed Shelia will discover a secret that will shock the state.

Laure,

I would just move on. She seems inept and has several businesses. It is almost like she is taking books, sending them on your dime, and hoping one sticks. You can be just as successful sending them to small publishers.

I have asked her several questions after being sent a contract, avoiding the $200 dollar fee because she refuses to answer it. I asked which publishers she's worked with or any novels she's sold and the answer was very broad.

Like Victoria stated, she isn't scamming just inept.

Hi-new to forum

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with an agent named Eunice Murray...just wonder if she is legitimate. Also wonder about a company called Donnaink Publications?
I appreciate any info...

Behind you!
Nice to have you here, Janet. You can seek further information at AW's Bewares, Recommendations, and Background Checks board.

If you see nothing there, you can start a thread for each one, with whatever information you have, like their websites and such.

Maryn, sharing her popcorn

Welcome. You can enter her name and the publisher's name into our custom Google search at the bottom left of each page. You might find what you're looking for that way.

How could anyone take this woman seriously as an agent?

The problem with the manuscripts coining in are formatting, grammar. and pronunciations . Another problem is communication between the characters. An agent usually know if they can market a project
within ten pages of the manuscript, so we are here to help you get your project to the publishers

Check out some of the writers workshops that covers this subject, and commas. I hope this help you, and thanks for checking out our blog.

A well develop character is the start of a great story.

Literally vs. Figuratively, this caught my attention so I decided to speak on it. There is a big contemporary argument as to whether or not you can use literally as a hyperbole. The stickers for grammar who don't believe in using literally when you mean figuratively will call you out on grammatical misstep. Literally is in a sense exact , so if you say something literally happen, you mean it actually happen.

A lot of members have completed their projects.
They are ready to get on the road of getting publish, but do they know what it takes to get publish.
http://murrayliteraryservice.blogspot.co.uk/

More to the point, Ms Murray, do you know what it takes to get published? How many of your clients have been published by reputable presses? Do you really work as an editor?

I also came across this 2005 thread:

I've just come across a couple of things on Murray's site that make me inclined to think she's more than simply inept.

New Book For 2011 (this was posted in July 2012!) The Black Throne II Series
We are proud to announce that we will be posting new books that are coming out through our agency. The Black Throne II Series will be out at the end of this year in Oct 12, 2012. I look forward to getting my copy. I look forward to announcing our books for 2012.

The only Black Throne 'series' - actually two volumes - with which I'm familiar is that by the prolific Kristine Kathryn Rusch, who I'm quite sure isn't one of Ms Murray's clients. The second volume was published in 2000. I was unable to find any other books of the same or similar title.

2012 NEW BOOK MINUTES TO DEATH
This is a great hard ball mystery with a wild twist for detective Lance Darn who has to find a serial killer, and save his best friend who has minutes to death. Look for this hard ball mystery in 2013
by Lesile Bells published by Clarion Books Inc.

Well, it's almost 2014 and I can find no trace of Minutes to Death by either Lesile or Leslie Bells, nor can I identify 'Clarion Books Inc'. I find it hard to believe that a 'hard ball' mystery about a serial killer would be published by Clarion, which is the kids' books imprint of Houghton Mifflin, and Clarion Publishing only accepts 'speculative fiction and quality non-fiction'.

OUR TWO RECENT BOOKS COMING SOON
Murray's Literary Agency is proud to announce the two recent books that are due to come out soon, we all are waiting patiently for- When The Clock Hit 12, I'll Be Back written by Sonja James. This is a thriller that will keep you turning the pages to see what is going to happen next. The second book Pray For David. This is a hard ball mystery that is funny, and gut retching that will keep you shouting for the hero. I will keep everyone informed as to when the books will be out.

That was posted in February this year. Sonja James and her book appear to have no internet presence outside Murray's blog, and however funny and 'gut retching' Pray for David may be I couldn't find any other references to a book of that title.

Finally, posted in June this year:

NEW BOOK THE SPY OF DAVID COMING SOON
The Spy of David written by Elliot Goldenberg. The Untold Story of the Pollard case is a great spy story based on true events. Spy lovers, you are going to love this story, it's being published by Strategic Media Books
http://murrayliteraryservice.blogspot.co.uk/

From the Strategic Media Books website:

For Authors, Journalists and Writers
Send us a cover letter outlining the story or theme of your book, how long it will take to complete it, a brief bio, one or two chapters, and the marketing plan you have in place to sell it. If we are interested, we will contact you, asking for a full copy of the manuscript.
http://strategicmediabooks.com/for-authors-journalists-and-writers/

So you don't need an agent to submit to Strategic, which makes sense as they don't seem to have any distribution worth speaking of and don't pay an advance.

No, there's no connection. The company has the same address as Ron Chepesiuk, who has published six books through SMB.

By the way, I've only just realized that by 'hard ball' Murray means 'hardboiled'!

I think it's Murrayspeak for 'gut wrenching'.

And I can't work out how long she's been in business as her LinkedIn profile is a bit confusing:

Murray's Literary Agent
April 1998 – Present (15 years 8 months) 4511 WAtlantic Blvd #1820 Coconut Creek, FL 33066

Murray's Literary Agency handle fiction, non fiction, romance, mysteries, suspense, thrillers and other genres.
We are a small agent of two but we handle a large scale of writers. I started writing in 1991, then my book was published, and I began working as a agent to help other writers get publish. I am also a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant www.marykay.com/emurray22

Owner
Murray's Literary Agency
March 1994 – Present (19 years 9 months)
http://www.linkedin.com/pub/eunice-murray/40/562/5b2

The question is, of course, how many books by this 'large scale of writers' have actually been published, and by whom. Murray's own book was self-pubbed through Xlibris, although she claims to have got a publishing contract for it.

Murray's Literary Agency

Murray's Literary Agent started in 1998 handling all genre, and now we handle fiction, non fiction, romance, thrillers, mysteries, suspense, and sci fy and chrildren books. We have helped hundereds of new writers get published, and we can help you.
http://www.meetup.com/South-Florida-Writers-and-Other/sponsors/

That's 'hundereds' more sales than anyone has yet been able to verify. I'm beginning to wonder if she's steering newbies towards PublishAmerica and Tate.

UPDATE FOR 2014 ON NEW EDITORIAL SERVICES
Murray's Literary Agency will be offering a editorial service in 2014, we made this decision based on hundreds of manuscripts that we received that are not ready to be sent to an agent. An Agent usually do not help in the revision of a manuscript, therefore turning down a lot of manuscript for one reason or another. A manuscript sent to an agent should be ready to go to a publishers desk
without any last minute revisions. In the past years, we have assisted many writers with the common issues of formatting, grammar, pronunciation, and more. I will continue to market
the clients work that we have listed, but we will not be accepting any new submissions until
June 2014, however, I will be accepting writers that do need help with writing their first novel, or need help in revising their novels. I will keep you updated as we move closer to the new year of 2014, Any questions contact me at [email protected]
http://murrayliteraryservice.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/update-for-2014-on-new-editorial.html

Please, please, PLEASE tell me that Eunice won't be the one doing the editing.

FAO anyone thinking of attending one of her meet-ups or using her editing service: ask Ms Murray to provide a list of all the books she's sold in almost twenty years as a literary agent. Not just the titles - you need to know the author, publisher and ISBN. With the sole exception of Elliot Goldenberg's The Spy of David there is no evidence that any of the books named on her website even exist.

Real literary agents don't moonlight as:

paralegals (http://justice4alllegalservice.blogspot.co.uk/)

jewellery workshop instructors (http://shawjewelrystudio.blogspot.co.uk/)

hair stylists/Mary Kay representatives (http://www.bloglines.com/company/39629733/Shaws.Stylish.Braiding.Salon.954-612-1982)

or herbalists (http://shawherbalhealinggarden.blogspot.co.uk/)

...unless of course they can't make a living wage by selling books to reputable publishers. Nor do they write at the level of a high school drop-out.

I was going to comment on those links, but a quick look at each one found multiple red flags above and beyond the 'agency' shortcomings. Leading me to invoke Filigree's Rule immediately. If not sooner. I have no further observations to share about this person.

Murray's Literary Agency is now Murray's Literary Service. Yesterday Murray created a new group, Editing Done For Success:

About this community
As a former agent, and creator of South Florida Writers and Other, I have moved forward to the editorial department. The decision came to me because of having to decline so many manuscripts that I received. . I want every writer to succeed in writing a great story. This group is designed to help writers or anyone that believes that they have a writer within themselves, have a great story to tell, or for anyone who want to write successfully. The group will also hold local meeting to discuss what agents, and publishers are look for in this industry. Join us on this journey.
https://plus.google.com/communities/102173261067805803260

Alas, the refurbished blog doesn't give the impression that Murray has stopped pretending to be an agent:

The way we offer help to writers are through agents representation, and editorial services.
http://murrayliteraryservice.blogspot.co.uk/

So far she hasn't revealed what her 'Editorial Rate' is, but we know it'll be too much.

Murray tells us that she has 32 clients, some of whose work appears in a 'Book Listing':

The Jockey Ridge Murder
Unidentifiable.

For Sale In Palm Spring
This should be For Sale in Palm Springs by Albert Simon and appears to be self-published.

The Spy of David
We've already dealt with this one.

United
Unidentifiable.

A Rose By Any Other Name
There are several books with this title - which one is Murray referring to?

Agents War
Unidentifiable.

Life, Pardon The Inconvenience
Unidentifiable.

Motherhood, A Family Memoir
Jon David K's book was self-published through Fastpencil.inc

Coyote Vision
Could this be Brad Whitewolf's Coyote Visions? If so it was self-published through Dog Ear Publishing.

The Runner
Unidentifiable. I doubt if it's the 61-page story by W J Davies.

The Stran Curse
This has to be The Strans Curse by Bryon C Decker.

Dear Mr. Killer
Another novel by Bryon C Decker. Like The Strans Curse it was self-published through CreateSpace.

No disrespect to Mr Decker, but this is an example of what passed under Murray's keen editorial eye:

It is amazing on how some people go through life and never worry about a natural disaster striking their homes. If the child they raised is going to die in the line of duty because they signed up in the military. They go on their daily lives not worrying the neighbor might end up dead. This is where I come in; I enjoy taking these little boring towns and give them a spot on national TV.

Oddly enough, both of Mr Decker's books have a very brief review by 'Patricia', who writes exactly like Eunice Murray.

The Kukoo Virus
Unidentifiable.

Screenplays
Star Trek Geramino
MURRAY'S LITERARY AGENCY SOLD A STAR TREK SCREENPLAY?!!!!
Moving Forward
Charlie
There's no way I can verify the other two.

Comic
Maggie The Prostitute
Unidentifiable.
http://murrayliteraryservice.blogspot.co.uk/p/book-listing.html

I await the forthcoming 'Testimonal' with bated breath!

Does make you wonder about the manuscripts she rejected. Maybe she couldn't work with someone who didn't share her abhorrence of the letter 's'??

Yes, I wondered about that! You'd think that Murray's instructors at University of Maryland University College, where she claims to have obtained an Associate's Degree in Paralegal Studies, would have discouraged that weird habit.

Another recent addition about Editing Done For Success:

This club is for anyone who has a writer within you, have a great story to tell, or anyone who want to write successful. The club will hold local meeting to discuss what agents, and publishers are looking for.
http://murrayliteraryservice.blogspot.co.uk/p/riting.html

Do you want to write successful? Do your homework and avoid vanity-published authors claiming to be agents, especially those who 'sell' their clients' books to CreateSpace.

There have been a few additions to Murray's list:

Children Books
Watch Me Draw
There's a whole series of Watch Me Draw books but I couldn't find an individual book with this title.

The Money Tree
I could find no likely candidates.

Angus The Wonder Horse
Unidentifiable.

Brielle Elaine Tries To Fit In
Brielle-Elaine Tries to Fit In! by La-Toya S Facey was vanity-published by AuthorHouse.

Education
The Personal Bailout Handbook
Unidentifiable.
http://murrayliteraryservice.blogspot.co.uk/p/book-listing.html

A couple of days ago I left a polite comment on Murray's blog pointing out that a list of titles without the names of the authors and publishers didn't mean much. She deleted it almost immediately.
