I have just received a message that looks to be touting for members for another writer's forum/site.
The sender, has no posts, and does not allow return messages.

Can anything be done about this?

Member MacAllister, known as "Mac", is the owner and supermoderator around here. You can forward your spam to her from your messages folder; I don't remember the specific mechanics, but it should be fairly simple.

The mods here take this kind of spam very seriously.

Heh, sorry. Mac is MacAllister, the owner of the board. She'll dispose of the spammer with relish. And mustard, too, most likely.

Thanks to all for the clarification,

Hey CaoPaux, I like the sound of mustard. It certainly felt a bit on the rude side to be sent a welcome and then in almost the same breath to be told to go somewhere else.
I'll go see if I can find this MacAllister, shouldn't be impossible (ggg)

Just go to the message you received.

Open it.

Click the Forward button at the bottom.

When the Forward box opens, start typing MacAllister in the "To" box (after the first few characters it will offer you a choice of members that start with those characters).

Add a line to the top of the message or to the subject line "Forwarding Spam Message".

Click Send.

There's also a thread about it here.

(Not that I want to point that out in a hah!-you-missed-it-fashion but just because that thread says why that sort of spam is unwanted on AW, to show you you're not specifically targetted and other info you may find useful. :))

Thanks FriendlyFrog, Yes I had missed it, but I find that if you try to read everything on all the sections of this site, then you have no time left to write anything.

I did look in the FAQ's but there wasn't anything there about spamming, apart from a gentle request not to spam other places about AW.

I will look at the link you so kindly provided.

Eh, no worries. This place is big, isn't it? Sometimes I think I should use breadcrumbs. I'm just glad that for once I did know where to find something.

This particular problem has been dealt with.

I'll leave this thread open in case anyone has gotten a similar message.

I know what you mean. It's incredible how much is here. And I get embarrassed to ask where to find something, even though I know it's okay.

Behind you!
Most of the people who last here tend to find a few boards or threads they visit often, and view the rest haphazardly if at all.

So you find a few places where they know you and like you, some places where they talk about what you read and/or write, and maybe do some critique in hopes of generating good karma for the day when you seek it yourself, like that.

I'm here a lot and I still don't come anywhere near reading it all. Every now and then I'll come across someone with 10,000 posts who I've never seen before.

Maryn, who still gets lost at times
