Hi all!

I just joined yesterday and am looking forward to getting to know you all.

After a long struggle with lack of inspiration, I recently started writing again, and it's felt great. My current WiP is headed in a good direction I think, but I found I need other writers to bounce stuff off of, so here I am.

I'm an Emerson College grad ('92) with a degree in Creative Writing, a degree which found me employed in banking for the next 15 years, since we all know that writing degree =/= publication. However, I do not regret the myriad of writing and literature classes I attended while I was there, as they could only have made me better.

I'm originally from Boston, I lived there most of my life, but my husband and I moved to Seattle in 2008 when he received the job offer of a lifetime from one of the top companies in his field, and we couldn't possibly decline. I resigned my position at the bank and was left with a rare opportunity that most writers dream of - the ability to stay home and write all day without having to go to a job.

I squandered this opportunity for awhile until I recently was hit with a burst of inspiration, and now I can't understand why I've been doing anything else for the past few years.

You'll probably find me in the IRC chat channel quite often (as either 'Hanse' or 'Hansey'), as I've been idling in other channels on Starchat for years, so joining one more channel is no problem. Besides, I find IRC to be a great way to get to know people better.

It's great to be here, and I look forward to participating in the community!

Take some time and read the Newbie Guide and the Stickies found
at the top of Forum pages. They are your best guide to learning about
Absolute Write.

Don’t forget to read the FAQ regarding posting pictures at AW.

Members who want to start a thread in Share Your Work to have work critiqued need
50 posts. So take some time to greet fellow newbies, critique other members’
works, or join a discussion.

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the 'forum jump' you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. After you post 50 posts you can use the SYW areas to get help there. The password for some of the areas is…..vista. A word to the wise, it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

I'm in the same boat with you, just didn't work in a bank. I just want to lock myself in my office, write and forget the rest of the world. But "they" must be fed occasionally.

What genre do you write?

I've been trying to figure that out, to be honest, hehe. I guess it's closest to sci-fi, though it's only marginally futuristic. My current WiP is urban and gritty with lots of guns and bad guys and corrupt corporations, though it's on an earth where we've started exploring the galaxy and run into alien races as well, even though the aliens in question aren't really the focal point of the story.

I guess now that I've said it out loud, it definitely seems more sci-fi than anything else. ;)

Hello Hansey, welcome to AW from another Bostonian. I love your optimism. Some people wouldn't look at your situation the same way you did, so good for you!
