An editor to a poetry journal sent me a question asking me if I would consider a particular revision as well as with comments on another poem. I accepted the revisions and replied to his comment. He did not say he was accepting the poem he revised or any of the others, nor did he say he was not. Should I presume they are not accepted and leave it at that or request clarification. thanks.

Do the revisions as as requested.

If he did not say "revise and I'll accept it" then it's still in the air.

Years back I was given a nice rejection in which the editor made basic suggestions on what the piece needed. I'd sold something to the magazine before, so he was really going out of his way commenting on something that wasn't publishable.

I made the changes and submitted again. He'd not requested a resubmit, but I thought "what the hell" and gave it a shot.

It sold. I even got fan mail.

Go for it. Whether you sell or not, go for it. The editor will remember you later for other submissions and know that you're open to hearing suggestions!

Thanks Gillhoughly, I appreciate your taking the time to share your thoughts. You've answered me from time to time and it's great.
