Was the rejection just for the query or did you have a full/partial out?

I've had several agent rejections on queries in well under an hour. Six hours? Man, what a slacker. ;)

Thanks, Little. It had sample pages too.

Either the agent was a super fast reader or I had serious suckage in the query hook. LOL

It probably depends on when your query reaches the agent. I think mine must work through his slushpile in the evening, because I sent my query when I got home from work and it only took him ninety minutes to get back to me - and the second reply (request for full) was also late evening.

Seriously, if you hang around at Query Letter Hell, you'll find yourself rejecting some queries within the first ten seconds. Like agents, you know what you like and what you don't like just that quickly.

Could be you miss a diamond, but if your pile of rocks is huge, you might not worry about it so much. ;)

Well, now I feel like an amateur. My quickest rejection was 2 days, and I thought that was pretty impressive. I love that you're bouncing back so quickly. If you find yourself flagging, just think of all the writing/editing/market finding time you have on the piece that you probably weren't expecting. Best of luck with the edit/resubmit/whatever comes next.

Not the fastest one but my first in my second round of querying came in less than 24 hours to an agent I painstakingly researched for weeks so that I could personally tailor my letter to her. That rejection made me feel so worthless and like I could spend all the time in the world editing and reworking and it would be a waste.

Later on the agent's blog I found a clue as to why my story was rejected and counted myself pretty lucky, but I also wonder if I was just telling myself that to not think anything else.

I'm feeling kind of sad now. My slowest was 2 weeks...

But it was through postal mail, so I like to think that transport ate up some of that time. *sigh*

But, honestly, I'd really rather hear and get it sent off somewhere else than be stuck in submission limbo. Ugh.
