Below is the working query letter for a book I am seeking a beta for. Anyone who has read a variety of vampire fiction for varied demographics would be a preferred beta (having the skill level to beta read is a given). I have about 25 pages left to edit on this draft, but will be done with them soon. I’ll be willing to exchange efforts and read the other’s work as well.

Current query:

Sixteen year-old dhampir Ginny Marsten both loves and loathes her vampire mother. She’s there for Ginny, concerned for her wellbeing, and wants to make her immortal as well. Ginny doesn’t want to ever feed off of anyone, even criminals; her mother’s primary food source.

Forbidden from being anywhere but school and home, Ginny has no friends. Having a vampiric mother requires discretion, so nobody can come over. Then Ginny falls for Max. He’s passive, which is probably why he's a target for bullies. In defending him, knocking the bullies into a pool, they turn their attention to her.

Fearing the attention, Ginny's mother has a plan to save herself and Ginny: fleeing town. Ginny’s almost an adult, her mother close to ready to convert her. Now, she needs to choose between divorcing her dear mother and living a mortal, more moral, life.

BAD BLOOD IN THE FAMILY is a 79,000-word YA novel.
