Indeed.
In the fall of 2002, Black Sparrow Press became Black Sparrow Books, an imprint of David R. Godine, Publisher...
Current editor is Susan Barba.

Can anyone give the submission mailing address for Black Sparrow? Their site is a little hazy. I tried mailing them and had my envelope returned.

What reason did the post office give for the return?

From reading their submission guidelines, here's what I get as the address to send queries to (was this the one from which your mail was returned?):

Black Sparrow Books
Editorial Department
Attn: Black Sparrow Books Submissions
9 Hamilton Place
Boston, MA 02108-4715

The post office put a sticker on the front of the envelope which says:

"Return to sender
Attempted-Not Known
Unable to Forward
Return to Sender"

Yes. That's exactly how I put the address on my envelope.

Reverse address lookup on 411.com shows
David R Godine Publisher Inc
at that address (along with some other companies and people, including entries specifying David R. Godine and David Godine).

You could try addressing it that way.

So, are you saying you think I should address it to David R Godine Publisher Inc instead of Black Sparrow Books?

Yes, I think you might try that. There are several businesses at that address. Since "Black Sparrow Books" doesn't come up as an official post office addressee, the mail carrier may not care to guess which of those businesses your letter goes to. Just a guess...
