Hi!

I'm revising my YA urban fantasy and find myself in need of a beta. I'm not looking for a line-edit (not yet anyway) but rather someone to spot any problems with the overall character arc or plot, help me fix scenes and characters. Here's some info on the book, please PM me if interested. I'd love to send you the first chapter!

(This is basically my query letter, as I haven't written a synopsis yet :))

Andra has despised sorcerers since they executed her mother for witchcraft. Twelve years later, the war between witches and sorcerers has ended, but Andra’s convinced the peace wouldn’t last. Not as long as sorcerers paid the price required by magic with the blood of innocents. Like her mother, Andra plans to become a witch, even though it means sacrificing a piece of her spirit and risking insanity with every spell.

Now a mercenary sent by an unknown enemy has targeted her brother, Jamie, and snared him in a spell that drains his life-force. Andra can’t use magic, as she hasn’t yet performed the ceremony that’ll make her a witch, and her runes are nothing more than squiggles in the air. Desperate, she turns to her friends, including ex-best-friend Reed. Together, they manage to trace the source of the spell to the sorceress Camilla, a cold-blooded hunter who has killed a hundred witches, and whom Reed knows by another name. Mom.

Camilla plans to use Jamie’s life-force in a spell to assassinate the Magister, framing Jamie in the process. Not only will Andra lose her brother, but her father will be linked to the Magister’s death, and witches have become unreasonably suspicious after the war. Andra doesn’t care much about the Magister, but there’s nothing she wouldn’t do to save her family, even becoming the thing she despises the most— a sorceress.
