Glad I never went with them.

As for my own update. i put the book away for a while and spent a good deal of time working on a second one. I had a real good heard of steam going, was approaching 40,000 words, and then a phrase entered my head, just a little phrase that I thought would sound good uttered by a character in my first book, and then i spent two months revising the first book. Now I'm jazzed about it again and ready to start querying small presses.

If you've done significant revision, I'd suggest going the agent route again before you start with small presses. Or, at least, approach both at the same time.

As was said much earlier in the thread, twenty-five is not a lot in terms of rejections, even if none of those rejections were personal or helpful. There are hundreds of good agents out there. No reason not to try them all.
