Irene asked for an exclusive on my full manuscript but I already have a full out with three other agents and partials out with three. What do I do???? I told her I would love to send her the full, but that it wouldn't be exclusive. It kills me that I can't just give her an exclusive.

That was the right response. You could offer to let her read it anyway and see what she says.

It kills me that I can't just give her an exclusive.

Why? You obviously have a hot product on your hand. Don't sell yourself short. Exclusives benefit the agents, not the writers. There's a chance you'll get multiple offers, and you'll have your pick of agents.

I went through the exact same situation with Irene a couple of months back -- she was very interested in my manuscript, but I had a couple partials and one full out.

She said she'd love to see it when/if others passed on it. When they did, I contacted her, sent the manuscript and she signed me a couple of days later. Happy ending all around!

She did end up letting me send the full manuscript. She also asked for first right of refusal, which was fine for me.

Four days later she offered representation. I have my full manuscript out with several others so I haven't been able to make any final decisions yet, but no matter what, this is going to have a good ending.

The website states:

Currently, the agency is primarily interested in acquiring authors who are at present or have been published at a major publishing house. If this is you, please include the name of your book(s), the house, the editor and the year of publication(s) with your submission.

Is that true, or is she trying to limit her slush pile growth rate?

The Agency retains all movie/TV rights for ALL of its represented works.

I recently saw an agency claim that "The Agency retains all movie/TV rights for ALL of its represented works." I'm curious what implications this throws into the mix, as opposed to an agency that doesn't retain the rights.

I don't understand how that sentence makes sense. Literary agencies don't hold rights in intellectual properties, they represent creators in licensing rights to intellectual properties. Either that's a wild typo or the agency in question doesn't know its business.

If what they mean is that representing film and video as well as print rights is the case for all of their client contracts, they need to say that more clearly.

Per her LinkedIn profile, Irene retired in '13. The only client I could find for Ashley is now with Trident. Anyone have (more) recent contact?
