Pooh, pooh, Ramon. You start a good year and crow about it. You could'a been a bit more subtle.

Congrats, R. but please define "accepted," and give a little more about the types of submissions. We like to know these things since you may be asked to provide advice or suggestions to others here.

poetry submissions is what I send out also short stories 2 of which I am waiting to hear back on.

my advice for anyone who would like it is this-keep sending submissions out. If one gets turned down by one market send it on to the next and then the next after that until you get it accepted. Do this with each and every submission and you could very well have a chance of seeing most if not of your work accepted.

My year started out REALLY slow -- I was out of the loop from September 2005 until March 2006. I started querying like crazy:

  • started editing a book (the author is sending me segments as he finishes them)
  • working with a poet to help promote his book
  • finishing up a submission for Beauty Addict and have another one due in May
  • I received a tentative "yes" from Info Tech News and a press kit to look over, but an assignment hasn't been given yet
I need more, though. Time management has been what's kicking my butt:
  1. 6:00am -- ge the family up and fed, SO off to work
  2. 7:15am -- get my oldest on the bus
  3. 8:00am -- bring the other two to preschool (it's 1 hour round trip)
  4. 9:00am to 11:15am -- quiet work time
  5. 11:15am -- get my oldest off the bus, lunch
  6. 12:00pm -- get the other two from preschool
  7. 1:00pm to 2:30pm-ish -- naptime (a bit more quiet work time)
  8. 2:30pm to 4:00pm -- learning to read, learning to write, playing outside, yard work, houework . . . anything else I can fit in . . . running errands (groceries, bank, post office, etc.)
  9. 4:00pm to 6:00pm -- cooking, eating, cleaning up
  10. 6:00pm -- baths
  11. 7:00pm -- bedtime (more quiet writing time if no bills have to be written out or calls to be made or backpacks to get organized)
  12. 8:00pm -- the kids are usually sleeping by now . . . so I watch TV for about an hour before crashing.
I need to figure out a better way to get more work in. It seems I have a lot of no-brainer time . . . but when it comes to time to actually sit down and concentrate on something important . . . it doesn't happen enough.

Bad. Just bad.
I haven't written one single finished piece since the year started. Actually my last finished piece dates from like 8 months ago. A 3'000 words short story. That's it.
I'm completely blocked lately.
Ok, everything is going absolutely *****y in my life at the moment anyways and I'm just being a lazy idiot that barely even studies for University.
I have one big project, the whole thing in my head, quite a few notes on the paper but I just can't get started. I'm trying to write the first sentence and mid-way I delete it again and just don't manage to put it down.
I can't even get a poem done and those used to be the way to express my hurt or anger.
But lately I feel numb.
So, yes, bad.

I've been thinking 2006 is just a loss as a year, and should be sent back to the manufacturer. So far this year, I've had one friend die of cancer (in her 30s), another who had a heart attack, and my wife has had two surgeries on her knee. Not a fun year.

Writing is the only bit that's been going well. Very few submissions, but the two stories I subbed both sold to nice anthologies, and my wonderful agent sold two of my books, along with a few foreign sales.

Honestly though, the writing is nice, but it doesn't balance out the rest of the crap.

And Jenn - your evening schedule reminds me of mine. Cleaning and bath time and stories before bed, and suddenly it's late and you've got just enough energy to veg out in front of whatever happens to be on TV.

I'm doing great!! I'm almost finished with a novel for a major contest and I've got another (shorter) contest lined up for june. July through october I'll finish another novel I've been sitting on, and I've already got my NaNo novel outlined for November :) December I guess I'll either take a break or start working on another proyect I've already got outlined.

I'm so happy!!

Mostly pretty crummy. You can see my sub vs. rejected total in my sig. I'm waiting for two contests to pass the announcement date (by end of May) and free up three short stories (unless I win, ha-ha) for redistribution.

The novel's going quite well, though it's shaping up to be a bit short. I have my beta readers lined up and I hope to get some drafts out to them by the beginning of the summer. I have an idea forming for the next novel that I'll start in the fall.

Like Jen, I'm super busy with kid stuff, plus a job I work at 3 days a week. And my addiction to evening television cuts into my time too. Summer reruns should help with that.

I'm having an exciting year. I have enjoyed learning about the business end of writing and have even been enjoyign researching agents and trying to find the "right" ones. I have submitted queries for my novel to 95 agents and have recieved about 50 rejections so far. (I need to update my signature:)) But I currently have two fulls and eight partials out for reads and I am excited about that. I also am about half-way done with my next book. No supper successes yet, but I am enjoying the process.

I have 2 pending and 3 accepted, but recently i have been focussiing on 'safe' markets. the two out are a totally different sort of writing (magazine article) and a new published (novel partial). So fingers are crossed.

I had a poem and an ariticle published in an emagazine, I passed on an erotic writing opportunity and I am waiting to hear from three book publishers, two for children's book submissions and the other for a novel. I also have a few article submissions out.
