So my sister and I are putting together a cookbook with cooking techniques that have never been done before on the scale we are doing it. It is virgin territory that we are crossing. When we mention what we are doing to people we know, they respond with a "You can't do that!" not because they don't believe in us but rather that's what everyone says. That it is simply not possible.

So when we query agents with our proposal would it be okay to include a couple of shelf stable items so when they get to the "That's not possible!" they can instead taste it for themselves and say "Wow, it really is." Or is that still a big no-no? We would not be using it as a bribe or anything but rather we've had to have people taste our results before they could actually believe that particular food item could exist.

I would never eat or drink anything that comes through the mail from strangers...

Agents have received lots of strange things in the mail, including threats.

Just not a good idea.

Just like most agents do not open unsolicited attachments in emails, most are not going to open or eat any food items you send to them. It also shows you can’t follow simple directions, since many agency sites will tell you to ONLY send your query letter, proposal, x number of pages, etc. You don’t want them to pass on your project for something as simple as following directions.

No. Never include anything like that with your query, including or maybe especially, edible things.
