Alanna - sorry to hear about your Grandfather -it's times like this when it is more important to look after you and yours than anything else :Hug2:

Livasa - welcome to the thread! I can vouch that it works - it's kept me on the straight and narrow, anyway... :D

Today's progress:

Started at: 72681
Finished at: 74408
Words today: 1727

Gah, creeping towards the end... each time I think about taking that step into the last scene, I end up adding more! It's weird... almost like I'm sabotaging myself from finishing... Oh well, at least I do know how it ends now! I've got the last time planed and everything. Just need to get there - 2-ish scenes to go?

Today's progress for me is mostly administrative. I've dusted off a trunked WiP, which I am currently calling Chaos, Dark and Rude. I've sorted through my notes, cleaned up my folders, read through what I have, edited a little, deleted a little and realized why I eventually stalled on it.

I came up with a plan of action for it, to help stay on plot and keep it all straight, and set up a daily goal of writing 1000 words a day.

I feel that was a productive day! :hooray:

Congrats Bearilou! Sounds like you're off to a good start.

Alanna - Very sorry to hear about your grandfather, as well. I hope things start looking up very quickly.

Well I just finished 100 words (I guess half of that has to go for the 50 I didn't write yesterday, but that's okay). It feels kind of good to write about a paragraph at a time . . . very easy and relaxed. And yes, a very slow pace is better than no pace at all.

And of course, my Three-Hundredth post ended up being right here! :D

Alana I'm sorry about your grandfather

and big welcome to the new members of the thread.

I've done nothing all week as I was away working but I've also hit a snag with my writer. There is slight kink of getting MC from point a to b and still trying to figure it out.

*sigh*

Right - it's 8.30pm and I'm procrastinating. Baby went to bed at 7.30 (although she is still awake... grr! Go to sleep, monster!), I've had a shower, I've giggled through a few Order of the Stick panels... now it is time to WRITE!

So - I write 502 words after lunch today. By 9.30pm (in an hour), I want to double that word count *at least*. My aim is another 500 words, my ultimate goal is another 1000 words. Let's see what I can do...

Thanks for the thoughts everyone! He's home now, so I'm staying with him and keeping an eye out. I have a freelancing deadline I'm behind on, plus a few major life events coming up this week, so I'm going to keep my tiny steps goal. So glad I have this thread to keep me on the forward momentum! :)

Congrats Mistress, Witch_Turtle, and bearilou on your progress!

Emily, perhaps you could just start writing at point B? Also, someotimes when I hit a writer's block it's because I'm trying to make the characters do something that doesn't fit with their personas or the story... is there a point C they can go instead?

To B or not to B, that is the question...

::thumps head on desk:: I can't believe I just wrote that.

On the plus side, I've been keeping with my goal!!! I'd like to add 1 character study as an option for the daily minimum. So, now I have 50 words a day OR a chapter outline a day OR a character study a day.

Woohoo! I think I can I think I can... :p

Alanna - at least he's home. Be kind to yourself, okay?

Emily - I agree with alanna. I get into these situations quite often, and when I do, I write IN CAPITAL LETTERS THAT XYZ NEEDS TO HAPPEN and then start the next scene. Then I can go back later and fill in the gaps rather than get bogged down at the time ;)

Well, I didn't quite manage the 1000, but I did manage 981, which is near enough.

Term starts tomorrow and I'm feeling a bit down... the end of the holidays always makes me feel yucky (more so this time, 'cos I've had a really productive time and I've enjoyed it immensely - just makes me wonder what it would be like to write full time). So, I'm going to take a night off. I wasn't going to, considering my goal, but right now, I'm just not in the mood (and I suspect everything I write will end up being deleted, anyway). It doesn't help that whilst I haven't deleted about 300 words I wrote yesterday, I have a feeling they aren't going to be used in this book... bah. Nothing makes you feel worse than your wordcount potentially *decreasing*!!

Still, I've gone from 17,000 words to over 75,000 words in less than 6 weeks, all thanks to you guys! :D

94 words today. I haven't been feeling very inspired/motivated the past few days, but I'm glad that I'm at least fulfilling my minimum 50 words goal. It seems like I don't actually *spend time* writing the way I used to. I either drive myself to write as much as possible as fast as possible, or else I don't feel like writing at all. It's not as if I don't have the time to calmly sit down and focus on working for a while . . . I guess I'll just have to work on actually doing so. Ah well.

Thank you for the warm welcome. Since posting last I've written 100 words :( Hardly the 1000 words aim. I've had full busy days and hit some plot snags which meant it was just easier not to write... Must be stricter with self! (Does editing and planning count...? Only if it's genunine and not just procrastination!)

I have a sneaking suspicion most of what I wrote today was utter tripe... funny how a scene that is perfect in your head ends up being melodramatic crap when you come to write it. Oh well - I'll fix it when I revise. Just 'cos it's written now doesn't mean it has to stay that way.

Today's progress:

Started at: 75891
Finished at: 76962
Words today: 1071

Term started today (hence the lower word count. I didn't get my afternoon in, because I was at work - on work days, I will only be able to write in the evening)... suddenly my tentative 'let's get this first draft done by 10th September!' seems a bit naive... oh well, I'll still go for it!

So tired... baby had me up from 1.30am - 4.30am last night, and then I had to work - I think I'm going to bed in a minute, even though it's only 8.30pm!

I also think I now have to be sensible, 'cos there is no way I can keep up my 10000 word a week goal. So, from now on, my goal is 300 - 500 words a day on workdays (Monday, Tuesday and Friday) and 500 - 1000 words a day on non-work days. I've reduced the goal on non-work days to take into consideration marking / planning and the fact that I'm going to have to reduce the time my daughter naps during the day so she actually might sleep at night!

Today's (work day) progress:

Started at: 76962
Finished at: 77495
Words today: 533

Saying that, I think I am now on my last chapter (well, my last planned chapter... depending on where my muse takes me, it might stretch to two!), so hopefully, for this draft any way, I won't have to worry for too long. Then - who knows? Revising this draft is a definite, but do I continue with the next book in the trilogy or finish a completely different story? What do you lovely people think?

Not so great today - and I've managed to come up with an idea that means I have two scenes to write until I finish. Not sure if that's a good thing or not...
