So, I've been browsing some book sites; Borders/B&N/Amazon, and while they have plenty of books, they lack a filtering system that can bring the number of book results down to a reasonable level.

Does anyone know of a site where you can browse through books that has a filter system that can reduce the number of results to only a few hundred maybe, instead of several thousand?

Can you give a more specific example (doesn't have to be what you're actually looking for, just a similar example). Amazon and other sites do allow you to search using various criteria (even though it might still bring up hundreds of books).

I'd have thought they'd have a "Genre" list that would help narrow it down...

But then, I don't shop online, so what do I know?

I use genres, sub-genres, pricing, and often limit it to e-books.
Still getting thousands and a ton of multiple hundreds. I don't want to have to go through 400+ books. Takes forever, and the fraction of books that even sound interesting are quite small among those. Usually less than 1 in 10.
But honestly, I'm not even sure if there is a way to break them down into further meaningful categories.

You could also sort by publication date and only look for the most recent.
