I know this game and its expansion pack have been out for a long time, but it's still as popular as ever. It's also one of the best games I've ever played, a definite improvement over its predecessor. Just three months ago, patch 1.13 was released.

I was wondering if there are any Diablo II players here on this forum. If so, perhaps we could share our own character builds. For those of you who play single player, I made my own mod for the new patch. It doesn't improve drop rates or add new items. But it does make ladder-only uniques possible to find in single player games and ladder-only runewords can now be made in single player games!

In fact, I made an entire txt file with all characters I plan to make including their final stats before and after bonuses from items, their final equipment, and the skills they use. The secret to success in this game is to plan ahead after all.

Does anybody here still play this great game?

So far, the builds I've only done are a Concentrator, Javazon, Werewolf, Physical Zealot, Bonemancer, Single Claw Martial Artist, and Lightning Sorceress. But I can hardly wait to try out Poisonmancers, Avengers, Bowazons, Whirlwinders, and a whole lot of others!

I've got a bunch of characters this ladder season again, though my favourite types are still the Trapssin, Strafe-Bowie and Orb Sorc. I'm not playing too much anymore though, made it onto the ladder after 10.11b, but this season i haven't really taken any char beyond lvl 80 yet.

Always loved the Necro. I'd show up to a multiplayer game with 20+ skellies and see a Barbarian standing there by himself. I'm like 'Hey, where are your guys? I guess I could use a handicap.' :D

Yup, DII is the only game I play. Until DIII comes out.

I've made tons of characters. My first favorite was the Bonemancer, but lately I've been on a melee craze and have been concentrating on Barbarians. My main character last ladder was a Berserker Barb. He rocked running keys, especially the Destruction keys from Nihlathak, and he made me rich. I'd trade one Destruction key for two Hate or Terror keys, make up sets of nine keys, then trade the key sets for high runes.

When I was playing more often, I was exclusively hardcore. I have a stable of 25 + living Guardians whom I renew regularly. They won't die until Battlenet goes offline. ;)

This ladder I'm starting with a Berserker, to run keys and trade for the leet itamz. I'll probably make a Kicksin when I get good gear for her. Kicksins are great in Ubertristram.

The only build I really hate is the Hammerdin. Yeah, the Baal runs champ with an Enigma, and a good rusher, but boooooring.

Probably the coolest character I ever played was a Pure Curses Necro named Carl Kolchak. His only means of inflicting damage was his Rogue merc, who was armed with a Harmony bow.* He made Guardian (with parties), but he could solo in Act Five Hell...very.....very.....slowly. Lots of fun, since he had to use so many cursing strategies. I'll do another of these this ladder, but after I've gotten the runes for a good Faith bow.

If anyone plays on USEast, put phaeal5 on your friend's list, and you may see me pop up.

* Actually I eventually got him a Widowmaker bow, which allowed him to do some killing himself.

Not anymore. The Hammer got nerfed in the patch.

So what if Blessed Hammer no longer ignores immunities and resistances of demons? It still looks like a very powerful build if you do it properly.

I'm mostly a single player who doesn't use the ladder. But with the mod I made, I can now access certain aspects available only to ladder-only players. Other single players will want to have it as well.

What made the Hammerdin unbalanced was exactly the ignoring of immunities, since the hammer deals magic damage, and only undead are immune or seriously resistant to magic damage. (Though i think that, too was changed with the patch). And in Baals groups especially, the magic resistant group were the Greater Mummies, which are undead. Since the Hammerdin can no longer efficiently kill them, the ability to solo Baal is much, much less. Heck, if not for immune monsters, pretty much every magic char could solo the whole game. What keeps magic chars balanced, despite their far higher DPS compared to physical chars, were the immune monsters, and in some cases even the dual-immune monsters. A triple-element sorc doesn't get nearly the killspeed of a single or even dual element sorc, and is much more comparable to "normal" physical chars. (Statistically speaking, BotD Barbarians don't exist)
The Hammerdin was completely unbalanced because he combined the immense damage of a magic char with a damage type that only very few monsters are immune to.

I can't go back.....but you always go back, don't you?

I've never been addicted to drugs or anything, unless caffeine counts. But, I think my experience with D2 can best be described as an addiction. It was something I had to do every night. After the wife and kids went to bed, I went to the computer and immersed myself in the game. I truly loved it. I pat'd, mat'd, MP'd with every class and tons of builds. I never made level 99. I was part of a community centered around the game. Every time I tried to stop or play a different game, I always came back. I barely even started the other games such as Sacred, Neverwinter Nights and Morrowind.

But, eventually I did stop, and in the past year I've been spending my evenings after the wife and kids go to bed writing. I'm hoping to continue with the writing, because there is so much I want to write, but that lure is always there. All it will take is one hit, and I'll let the addiction take over again. Fortunately, I can put off D3, because I will need a new computer to be able to play that game, and I'm too cheap to buy one.

just a little bit of Diablo II humour:

I wouldn't want to be the farmer of all those cows in the Secret Cow Level.

All of the cows have been slaughtered. The bad news: no more milk. The good news: Hamburgers for everyone!

Yep. Play every day.

Necromancer is my favorite character class. Especially now that they've added those preserved heads etc. to buff up summoning abilities.

Assassin is a close second. I like frying people with traps and sneaking up to stab them in the dark.
