Kindle for PC Beta

Amazon is distributing a free application for pc's and iphone's that will allow the user to read kindle books on those appliances. Has anyone tried it? I downloaded the pc version to see what it was like. There are tons of free classics available, too.

How long has it been available? I just got an email about it from them. Good idea if they thought people weren't aware cause I wasn't.

I can't remember exactly; seems like it was last summer or fall.

I don't use it much for fiction (except for the freebies), but I use it for some nonfiction reference materials.

I down loaded it last summer. Have only used it twice as an experiment. Its ok, but nothing to brag about...

How many is "tons of free classics" and how does it compare to http://gutenberg.org which has lots of PD books in several formats?

My understanding is that you can get anything from the Gutenberg catalog, plus a great deal more, but I've just started looking into it.
