I went full-time the end of last year. DS has been my mainstay. Now I'm also writing for SEED and trying out rev share on eHow--and keeping an eye out for better-paid writing gigs. The challenging part is that better writing opportunities tend to have much longer response time and sometimes don't pay until publication. I'm glad to see you're off to a good start!

Don't let magazine writing scare you, magazine editors don't bite...hard. As someone who's written for a few magazines, I can tell you, it's not that intimidating. Just lead your query with a great hook in the opening paragraph...even if you get a rejection or two, you'll probably get some great feedback from the editor, and an encouragement to try them out again. That's been my experience.
