You never know. She may have just happened to be going through her mail when I sent it. I would assume that most agents would have their filters set up for allowing requested material. I replied to her request but changed the subject to requested. Just give it a little time. It's only been a few days. Several agents that have requested chapters have mentioned they read on the week-end.

Beware, how long have you been at this if I may ask? I agree, the query game is discouraging.

Carlene, I queried over the summer too and had material requested. I didn't hear from my partial in 3 months so sent a status query and got a request for a full with an appology. That was a while ago now and no word, I know they're swamped but I'm still wondering if this agency doesn't respond to material they don't want to rep?

After waiting 3 months, I sent Alisha an email asking for a status update on a requested partial and asking if they respond either way.

Like every agency, they are way behind on reading requested material, but Alisha assures me they DO respond either way.

Hey Everyone - I'm a brand newbie to AW (and forums in general, really) so please excuse any obvious examples of that.

I joined because I queried TRF on January 28th and received a partial request from Alison that same day. I sent a few chapters back, and received an immediate reply from Alison stating that one of their readers was already looking at the material and I would hear back as soon as she got feedback.

I haven't heard anything since then. I realize that's a very short span of time in agent-land, but based on the speed in which I heard from her with the query and then with the receipt of materials, I'm wondering if this is a no?

Patience is a hard thing to master as a writer during the submission and querying process!!

Any thoughts?

Also, an interesting thing to check out (if you haven't done so already) is query tracker. It allows you to see statistics of response time between the query and reply from the agent, as well as stats about how many queries prompt requests for partials, fulls, etc. It has made me feel a little better, but I'm still insanely anxious.

Midday Dark: Welcome! :welcome: I wouldn't worry too much. As you stated, it's hasn't been that long. Especially if they have readers. Just because it's been sent to a reader doesn't mean the reader has read it yet. They have a ton of different MSS to read and yours is in there somewhere. I'd give it at least another month or two before you start worrying. I think the rule of thumb is 3 months for a partial. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Thanks for the welcome!

You're probably right, I'm just being way too impatient.

Are you out on submission as well?

Maybe they respond quicker on ones they don't like. Alisha requested my full on 1/8, then a reader/intern rejected it on 2/2. I was happy with the turnaround.

Got a partial request from Ali today! She wants a 'few chapters' but didn't specify how many. I know 3's the standard but I wonder if I should submit 4? The fourth chapter's pretty good but it's about 39 pages over all -- too much?

I mean I'd like to think they kept it that vague for a reason, but I'd just like to make sure first.

PS - mcilpuf, did you hear about that MS?

Yes, I did. Alisha let me know I had passed the first cut (similar to Saskatoon above) and that she'd be reading it again shortly. So, here's hoping!

I queried Sam H. on Jan. 27. Heard back less than an hour later, requesting the first few chapters. Sent them right out but haven't heard anything as of late afternoon on Feb. 11. This doesn't appear to be particularly unusual to me. It could well be a week or two or more before I hear (if I ever do, of course).

Roly, what do you mean by "an amazing R"? LOL Good looking and sounding one? Or helpful?

I don't remember when I queried them but it should have been between the last week of Jan and first week of Feb, and got a request for "some sample chapters" today from Chloe Marck, Assistant. I suppose she is the one handling the e-mails these days. I queried through the web form, so it's working fine. In this case, as I am apparently given the rare opportunity to choose the chapters, I'm going for the strongest ones and not the first 50 pages or similar.

Roly - you must be glad to have received a personalized R rather than a form. I know I would be. I sent my partial the same exact day as you and haven't heard yet.

I did get a request for a full from another agency today though so I'm feeling loads better than I was this morning.

Simplyaven - good luck on the partial.

Yeah, it was a really helpful personalized rejection so I was happy about that. Form Rs on partials/fulls suck though I understand why agents do it.

Yeah don't worry guys, just be patient! It's a slooooow business :D

I never received a confirmation or a response from my form query at the beginning of February. Do they send rejections at all on queries? I find nothing on their site.

Reading about the quick requests from queries, I wonder if the server had a hiccup when mine went through.

Got a rejection on partial today with some... hm... interesting comments. LOL "No action" particularly amused me considering it's romantic story and the two meet as soon as the middle of the first chapter which sets the beginning of the action. ROFL Sooner than that and I would have written the scene in a prologue. Anyways, she told me two days ago the reader was swamped and may be nudging at this point (as I did) is not a good idea.

Ali McDonald was just promoted within the agency. I wonder if/how that affects the fulls she has.

A good place to check would be querytracker. Search by agency name and then look at their information there. I seem to remember them being interested in most genres; I can't see why they wouldn't want historical fasntasy. Either way, it's worth sending a query via their online form.

Any response yet MiddayDark? Roly's took about a month and you've been waiting two and a half months now... Did you two get sent to different readers (they have two apparently)?

Mine is with Vanessa as of February 25th. As with you guys I'm curious about how long I'll be waiting.

I still haven't heard anything unfortunately - so at this point I'm assuming it's a no. As you said, it's been nearly 3 months since my partial was sent over. Hopefully you have better luck than I did, and hear back sooner :)
