When I started blogging (about 10 months ago), I thought I would write about the main elements of my life - namely, writing, books, commuting and travelling. Initially I was writing about things I found interesting. But then, initially I wasn't sure anyone was going to read it but me.

As the blog appeared to build up followers, I started writing about the things that I thought others might find interesting. Those who live elsewhere seem to like my blogs about London. A lot of people seem to read the tales of my various world travels.

The last few months have taken a slightly different turn, as since I got my publishing contract the blog has mostly been about my journey to publication and my forthcoming book.

I think the people who have been following my blog since the early days are finding this journey interesting - at least, I hope they are!

More experienced bloggers seem to be better at focusing on one thing, whereas my blog meanders. But I'm enjoying the learning process, and I think those who read it enjoy it to.

I started my blog as a way to get back into writing. Slowly it turned into a humor blog and now I feel like I've let my readers down if I'm not funny in every post. I know that isn't true, and some of my readers have said they just like knowing what's going on in my world (I blog about my crazy neighbors a lot). My blogging frequency is way down because I returned to work full time (just through the school year - I will have the summer off) and I'm trying to work on a fiction novel. Writing what I want, and not what I think my readers want, is something I am struggling with.

Generally, I write about media--movies, books, etc. Not just reviews but also what I'm anticipating and/or hope to see/read. Coupled with various observations about art, history and life.

I talk about a little bit of everything on my blog. Book reviews, movie reviews, updates on my book, recipes, stuff I do/don't like, how my friend Evi "upgraded" the Twilight T-shirt someone got me as a gag-gift for Christmas....

I seem to blog a lot. I do this to get into a habit of writing everyday. Now its not a habit its an addiction.

I actually have 3 blogs on the go at the moment;
1st blog is about my writing and my procrastinating
2nd is a music blog which I write a music review in every day
and now the 3rd is a cultural blog, where i try to teach myself more about culture.

My blog is all over the place. I use it to warm up for my regular writing. It is pretty much whatever tickles my fancy. I post everday which allows me to cover a lot of subjects.

Writing, video games, movie, TV, books, my childhood, my day job (teacher). I go from serious to completely ridiculous.

I write what I like and if someone likes it---or doesn't---away we go from there.

The worst thing I think a blogger can do is try to figure out what the reader wants to read and then pander to it. Then you're in danger of falling into a trap of only writing about what you think people want to read. I'd rather risk boring someone with something I'm passionate about than exciting them with crap that bores me.

My blog covers politics, news events, sports, the arts and a lot of other things. I was a columnist for numerous publications for years so being opinionated comes naturally to me.

I may never be as popular as I wish, but I'm not going to try to be something that I'm not: a entertainer. :partyguy:

My most recent posts were reviews of a movie and a restaurant. One epic fail, one tasty pass.

Chaos. I loves it. I writes it. But I have high standards. I won't write about my dripping ceiling unless I think one of my photos of the perfect, shining drops is good enough to post.

I can totally relate! I just went back to school full-time. But I find little pockets of time when I can sit down and write on my blog. It's been healthy for my writing progress that I have to stress a little --no time for that inner critic to come out!

I keep multiple blogs. I have a LiveJournal that I use for personal things involving my life/family/fandom/etc; it stays friend-locked. I just signed up for a blogger, though, and I'm planning on using that for things that I would want my writers to read. Reviews, my progress on writing/getting something published and whatnot. ;) If it's not something I would want the entire world to read, I definitely won't put it there.

My Blog Topics

In my blogs on Blogger I write about aspects of writing and on topics that are found in my novel such as technology and the environment. I'll also reviews books I've read and add videos. I like to offer a variety of content as long as it relates to writing or is about what I'm writing in some way. I try to blog at least twice a week.

My blog is my runminations on reading, writing, rural living, retirement. And sometimes my border collie or my cats. That pretty much covers my life. For some reason, I get more comments when I blog about my cats.

Sometimes I combine a couple topics, like this post about taming wild cats and querying agents.

What I don't want to see when I read an author's blog is nothing but info about the author's book. I want to scream, Get a life and write about it! The blogs I like best are the ones that reveal a person's interests and experiences.

I have had multiple blogs in the past where I posted just about anything I wanted. it never seemed to bother my readers, but when I looked back at how . . . upset I was at a few things, I sort of got annoyed with myself. So now, the blog I have on my personal site is mostly about writing, my own writing experiences as well as other things that may be of interest to others. Mainly, if it does not tie into my own writing habits, I do not make it public.

I blog about everything. Book reviews, movie reviews, pimping my friend's books, stuff relating to writing, contests, offers from publishers and progress on my novels and random stuff about my life.

Hrm. Another thread I've lurked in so much, I forgot I hadn't posted yet.

Anyway, I try to keep my main blog focused on books, either reading or writing them. This isn't to say that occasionally I don't veer off onto a slight tangent with a post on (example not at random) Avatar the movie or something. So I guess I post a mixture of what I want and what my readers (the few there are) want. Though, currently I'm still just trying to figure out what exactly they want, by making up topics as they occur to me.

I do have a personal livejournal, but I rarely post there, and it's strictly for friends and family.

I guess it would be everything.

Well I had to do some spring cleaning and decluttering.
I write childrens stories and have always just kept them in my head.
Well the head was getting full so I decided to put them down on paper and a blog for just them seemed like a good idea.
So if you have children and want something original to read to them visit the site. I can always use suggestions to make it better and also story ideas.

My writing style and topics depend on which blog I'm working on at the moment. I cover pet laws for Examiner.com, provide pet news and info on my own pet-related blog, and blog about anything and everything on my Multiply blog.

My blog is for a scholarly journal that I edit, and is a shameless plea for submissions (nobody here is likely to be interested, unless you're an entomologist in the midsouth, so this isn't spam). It's meant to be informative.

I write for myself, as always, but with an outward focus, knowing that the majority of potential readers are not going to give a flying turd about word counts or the inanities of my daily life. And, a year or two down the road, neither will I--so why chronicle the dull ephemera that would set even my most narcissistic impulses snoring?

I'm also planning to use my blog as a means of building a fanbase for future publishing efforts, so I'd like to attract my audience with meaty, engaging content. I think of what I'd like to see from an up-and-coming author that would entice me into following their work and buying their books: I'd want to see examples of their fiction, first and foremost (it's surprising how many "writer blogs" have precious little of this); I'd like to get a glimpse into their thought process, their raw ideas before they're crystallized into prose; and I'd like to hear their opinions and thoughts on writing, the books they read, and the themes they explore in their own work.

The "kitchen sink"-type blogs don't interest me unless they're written by friends, and I'm confident that my own would interest about the same handful of people. So that kind of stuff gets posted to Facebook instead, a cesspit for collecting the squishy TMI side of life.

I write what I think it's interesting to share, mostly involving films, literature and general geekery.

I have two of them and in one I write whatever I feel like, whatever I'm thinking about at the moment. But the other is devoted strictly to writing/reading in my respective genre. And since I have a low number of followers, which I can count on one hand, I'm not too concerned with whether or not folks like what I write in either of them. :D
