I need a reliable website hosting company. Over the last two weeks the company that hosts my sites has become unreliable. Any recommendations for another hosting company?

I have been with HostNexus for about a decade. Always been super happy with them. Very reliable, very responsive to their customers, great prices, and ton of options to meet just about any need.

I've had Bluehost for a while because of some of the things they support. I think they are fine, and quite inexpensive. It depends on your needs, of course. I haven't had need of heavy bandwidth, so I can't judge on that part.

I host a couple of sites with yahoo.com small business (AW is on its own server, but you don't want all your eggs in one basket, and so on) - and I've generally had good luck with them.

I h8 yahoo. Wottever. Do a search for sites that compare hosts and have reviews. It's tedious, but well worth it.

Personally, I have a preference for small hosts, little gems scattered in the shadows of the fat monopolies. DrakNet, Swifthost....

I've been happy with Hostgator the last few years. GoDaddy was my previous provider. Can't recommend them. Support is so slow.

Whatever you do, look for a host using the cPanel interface for your management of the site. It is easy to navigate. Also, many offer perks like free Google Adwords credit. Take advantage of it. Definitely, go with a host that has a money back guarantee. You should never pay a set up fee. Some hosts require a year payment. Even if it costs a bit more, go with a host that has a monthly until you can evaluate them. Good luck!

The difference out there for hosting companies is incredible.

I am at a point where I need to start my own web page, but I am so new at this I do not know where to begin. I have searched a few review sites, but if you do not know what you are looking for, they can be very confusing.

Godaddy has been recommended to me by several of my friends, but I have read a lot of negative stuff about them so I am not really sure I want to jump into that pool.

Is there a thread, and I have searched, where it spells out what to look for, where to go, and what issues you may want to consider????

HELP...

I host about 22 sites on my office webserver. I'm relatively dependable. "relatively". :) But that's for a bunch of public schools. (sorry.)

For personal use, I've been using nearlyfreespeech (NFS) for a number of sites. Support has been fast and friendly. And you pay for the bandwidth you use. So, if activity is slow, I pay less. When I anticipate a heavier load, I can drop a couple of bucks in the account to cover the traffic. As an example, ifoundaknife.com is costing me about $30.00 a year, traffic, hosting, everything.

I'm sure, when i get famous/infamous/whatever, it will cost me MUCH more. :)

NFS sounds good. It's realistic. The big site-farms soak everyone for the same amount and waaay oversell space and bandwidth. That means giving you more than they really have, on the assumption that most users won't ever use more than a fraction of it. So when some fat hog sites put a heavy load on the servers, they don't pay any more than the light users and everyone's site loads slow.

Yola.com is a great web hosting site and has super fast backup when you encounter a problem.
They offer free websites (ideal for a beginner) which you can update for a small annual fee when you become more proficiient. And it offers plenty of gagets - even on the freebee - that covers most needs

I use DreamHost for all of my sites, but aside from the very basic things, they're kind of higher up on the technical learning curve.

If you're looking for the easiest, most reliable hosting possible, you can purchase hosting through Wordpress.com. The packages vary, and it tends to be a more pricey option than a traditional webhost, but you'll have complete uptime, a CMS-backed website, and you won't need to worry about things like updates as they are all pushed from central.

The other benefit of hosting with Wordpress is that you can start free and add features as your site grows without having to really worry about things.

It's not the ideal solution for everyone, but it is something that's frequently overlooked.
