Anyone else cringe at Christmas music? Am I the only one that dreads the holidays? I hold my breath through the whole season. :) I am a scrooge and always get judged for being one. :)

Apparently, I'm the only scrooge. Come on folks... It's okay to admit it here. You hate the guy in the red suit and black Friday makes you nauseous. If you have to watch one more Christmas special or play nice with ONE MORE crazed family member...

Wow, it's lonely here in bitterville.

I feel absolutely no shame in saying I despise everything about Christmas.

Sure, I get called 'Scrooge' for that - and it pisses me off. Not celebrating Christmas doesn't mean I refuse to buy any presents for anyone, ever. (As if gift-giving should be the whole point of this saccharine charade anyway).

I just will not get involved in the enforced jollity and rampant commercialism.

Or the huge credit card bills comes January.

I love the Christmas specials (going to see White Christmas on Broadway in two weeks). And I like good music...some Christmas songs fall into that category. But I don't celebrate the day. So I guess that makes me a Scrooge...btw, A Christmas Carol is a great special!

lost among the words
I'm not sure I'm bitter, but I'm not too fond of the Christmas season. Especially when it starts before Thanksgiving. Even more when it starts before Halloween, as it has in some area stores.

I don't hate Christmas music, but when they start playing it before December 20th, it gets old. FAST. There are several radio stations that I'll listen to the rest of the year, but I stop listening to the end of November (like about now) because they start Christmas music 24/7. Drives me bonkers. I don't like any music enough to hear it repeated so bloody much.

However, my household isn't Christian, so the actual day is just a paid day-off for me, which is really sweet this year (instant 3 day weekend!) and since I now live 5 hours from the rest of my family, I don't have to deal with the family traditions that I've come to hate (especially some of the food traditions) over the years. We set our own pace, do our own thing and it's much nicer.

Perhaps that's why I can tolerate and put the effort into avoiding the season stuff as well as I can--I know the day itself isn't going to be hell on earth.

Yeah, I'll play along as much as I can. I do presents and all for people, but damn I hate the season. :) It's too commercial and fake to me. Plus, it means family drama EVERY TIME. sigh. :)

This is what started my rant. :) Christmas music before Thanksgiving isn't annoying, it's torture. :D I am a Christian. (Not conservative, but still). Christmas has never seemed to have a whole lot of spiritual focus in comparison to the commercial. (IMO)

We set our own pace, do our own thing and it's much nicer.
Sounds lovely. :) I have a long list of family we're supposed to see.

I do like Charlie Brown. And The Ref. That's probably it. :)

AW. A very nice place!
... classic Scrooge:

"Are there no prisons?" asked Scrooge. "Plenty of prisons," said the gentleman, laying down the pen again. "And the Union workhouses?" demanded Scrooge. "Are they still in operation?" "They are. Still," returned the gentleman, "I wish I could say they were not." "The Treadmill and the Poor Law are in full vigour, then?" said Scrooge. "Both very busy, sir." ":Oh! I was afraid, from what you said at first, that something had occurred to stop them in their useful course," said Scrooge. "I'm very glad to hear it." "Under the impression that they scarcely furnish Christian cheer of mind or body to the multitude," returned the gentleman, "a few of us are endeavouring to raise a fund to buy the Poor some meat and drink, and means of warmth. We choose this time, because it is a time, of all others, when Want is keenly felt, and Abundance rejoices. What shall I put you down for?" "Nothing!" Scrooge replied. "You wish to be anonymous?" "I wish to be left alone," said Scrooge.

i see christmas as an excellent opportunity for transformation. that's why i like it's a wonderful life and the scrooge story. you don't need something like christmas to transform you...but it's cool that it's there...and the stories that come with it. transformation can take place any old time of the year...but for me there is something magical about christmas...in the heart. i'm a first rate, grade a sap. i believe in santa claus and peace on earth and rudolph the rednosed reindeer. i believe in all of these things...and in sweet baby jesus in the goddamned manger. i can listen to christmas music every day.

Thankfully I won't have enough money to buy bus passes to get me to locations that spew Christmas music.
