I'm sorry to say, it does sound like a form.
However, having read your first 250 words in the SA contest, I have every confidence that you'll get there. It was a brilliant kick-off and I want to read the book when it's published. :D
btw, have you heard back on that full yet?

See, that's what I get for thinking I'm special-lol! And yes, I did hear back from the contest agent. It was a pass :cry:but I think it was for the best. I've detailed what she said on my blog, so you can hop over and have a looksee. And THANKS for the vote of confidence. I liked your submission too! Have you heard back yet? If not, good luck, I'll cross my fingers, toes and eyes for you!

Well, I'll send you some good vibes. You should be hearing back soon. She got back to me a week ago and one of the other winners a few days later. Let's hope it's good news that she hasn't gotten to you yet!

I got an R from Jennifer Laughran, which surprised me because they say they only respond if they want something AND I'd had a brain fart and sub'd to Mary Kole a week after I sent to Jennifer, so I knew I had nothing coming. Needless to say I was surprised to get the R, but happy they didn't just throw it in cyber trash never to be seen again. My questions is, does this sound like a personal R or has anyone else gotten it and it's her form:

"Thank you so much for the opportunity to review your manuscript. While there are many things to love here, I just didn't feel that "spark" - the special connection that I need to feel in order to take on a new client. There is no doubt that you are a good writer, and I am sure that I'll be kicking myself for this when you sign that big book deal! But you deserve an agent who will feel just as passionate about your work as you do.

Very best of luck, and I look forward to reading all about your successes."

Some how it seems like a form, but maybe that's me being overly skeptical--lol.

From PERSONAL experience- that is NOT what my rejection said nor what it looked like- I know mine was a form rejection. I don't think yours was!

Cheering you all on!
I got a request from Jennifer Rofe after querying a year ago. Sometimes it happens that it takes a while :)

Well, kudos to Laura Rennert and Andrea Brown Literary. Whipped off an e-query today and got an acknowledgment that it was received. Wish more agencies did that.

A couple weeks for a response on a full. Nice and quick.

Submitted a picture book on 10/28 to Kelly Sonnack and got the auto response immediately. Got her R yesterday (11/23) with a comment that it is a nice piece, but it might be more suited to a magazine. She suggested I try Highlights.

It's out to a few other agents still, but I'm perfectly open to Highlights, appreciated the feedback.

Rosepddle, that's just what mine said (except that it listed specific things that she liked). Sigh. And here I thought it was personal.

Good luck to anyone with material still out to them.

You mean I have hope after all. :D But it is true. Last spring I sent Caryn Wiseman my query and she suprised me two months later with a full request. I had already marked her off as a non response on QT. In the end she rejected it, but I had pretty much shelved it before then. Turns out I'm stronger at writing YA contemporary than I was at writing YA urban fantasy. :)

Hi Traven, did you use the email listed on AgentQuery? The agency website does not list an email for her...

Thanks!

Has anyone submitted to them recently? I was wondering if it's a good time to query or not with the holidays coming up.

I queried about two weeks ago, haven't heard anything yet, but it says they could take up to 8 weeks. Don't know if that's normal or not.

At this point I'm going to wait until after the holidays, maybe mid to late January to give them time to get through the accumulated slush pile!!!

Good luck jsouders. You emailed them right?

And I think I'll probably wait until after the holidays like sciri said. I've been reading a lot of blogs lately and other agents seem to be cutting off queries until mid January. I'm just so anxious to send mine out! :)

Just got my rejection. Oh well. I've decided to take a break from writing anyway, this just helped cement it. LOL.

Hi there,
I queried Ms. Rennert back in the beginning of Nov. and never got the auto-response. I've read through this thread but was wondering if anyone knew if this was still in effect? After reading the posts here, I queried again earlier today and again did not receive the auto-response.
Any info. would be appreciated :)
Thanks

From what I've heard, the agency is taking a break until January. Good luck!

Uh huh, yeah. One of the entry requirements is to post about the contest on two boards ... NOT a good way to win friends, FYI.

I'm so mad about people being required to post comment spam -- and make no mistake, this is comment spamming -- that we're summarily removing links back to the contest site. We've had something like a half-dozen already, today.

I wrote Mary Kole with my objections, and she blew me off with a fairly dismissive statement that--essentially-- "this is just how it's done."

No, actually - requiring that people invade other sites with comment spam is NOT how it's done. It's a fairly astonishing breach of netiquette. Requiring that people spam message boards and other people's blogs? That's a far cry from asking people to tweet a link, retweet the link, or post on their own blogs/sites.
