I used to worry that all my MCs sounded the same, until I switched genres and started allowing my characters to swear and do other adult things. Now they're quite varied.

My current WIP is told from 2 perspectives - half a book each. I'm up to the second half now, and this character is immediately different from the first one. I think writing in 1st POV has really helped, because I dip into the POV mind a lot with the second character, whereas the first one is more about actions. (It's the old male-vs-female idea, which works well enough)

You'll make the MCs stand out from each other eventually.

I've done it, and it works for me. I like being able to switch between multiple WIPs when I hit mental blocks. Then again, I know writers who can't split their focus that way, and it seems legitimate. Try it if you want, and if it proves a struggle you can stick one story on the back burner.

Have you ever seen my siggy? I've been known to have three WIPs at once, plus whatever I'm editing at the time. As long as you are capable of giving 100% to ALL projects and don't feel guilty setting one aside for the night to work on another, why not?
