I get the impression form reading through these forums that most people have in their sights a big budget Hollywood style production when writing scripts, and since this is so competitive the smallest things, procedures and styling of the script need to be perfected

I just wondered if anyone has experience of writing for what would be a low budget British film. Is it so important that every aspect of the script is polished to perfection, particularly given the gritty theme of the subject of the script?

When you're trying to attract money & talent, any script, regardless of how it will eventually come to fruition (studio or indie, domestic or foreign) needs to be in tip-top shape.

Ditto what Creative said. Any script you try to sell needs to be the best you can possibly make it.

As for low budgets then you need to write it in a way that it could be shot on a low budget. No CGI, no big explosions, no car chases with big wrecks, limited locations, limited cast and such. You aren't gonig to want to have it shot in a gigantic mansion anything that adds expense needs to be watched.

But quality above all else in any script unless you're a work for hire and they specify otherwise, needs to be top priority.

Most of the stuff that I attempt to write is aimed at the low-budget market and so when writing it I am aware to try and keep the locations to a minimum and even stuff like not having too many crowd scenes or night-time scenes which would need extensive lighting.
