...There were several other 'experiences' during my investigations, but most of those are in the book. (book title if anyone is interested is Spirits of Georgia's Southern Crescent).

If you're in South Georgia, particularly SouthEast Georgia, I firmly believe the swamp water has something to do with all the 'ghosty' things down there.

I'm from down that way and we had all these branches, creeks and ponds all over the place and some of the weirdest things happened in our area. Family members (the old ones) would tell us about ghosts they saw or heard. Grandma's house and all her land sits on what was once a PoW camp during the Civil War and the dead prisoners are buried out under the oaks in the rear of the horse pasture.

Her house, a very old one built at an angle so the water from mopping the floors could drain, was definitely haunted. We were always hearing voices, footsteps and shadows in that house. Also, one evening, my aunt and I were sitting at the dining room table and the door to the dining room opened against the angle. No doors or windows were open to push it with wind. Besides, it opened and stayed open. To do that meant pressure had to be exerted from the opposite side and held there.

The most disturbing film I've seen in about ten years was The Orphanage directed by Juan Antonio Bayona. (2007 - I know, not the past year, I'm cheating!) Thoroughly creeped me out, and I've watched a lot of horror.
I was so into it by the end I'd forgotten I was watching subtitles, and when I remember it I remember the dialogue in English. For any aficionados of good horror, I reckon that is one of the best.

The Orphanage creeped me out, but the emotional impact was more than that, too. I didn't see the end coming.

Between the creepy talking dolls and the spider-egg-eating bird, this thread is more than a little spooky. Also, full of canon-fodder! (spider eggs are always good for a bit of squick factor)

Wasn't in the past year (like the other jaded people here, I've gotten a tad desensitized) but we had a friend stay over at our place. He had just split from his missus, a bit down n out and gets a wee bit drunk.

Husband goes off to work that night so it's just him and I. S'all good. We chat n stuff and I wander off to bed n he passes out on the couch. A couple of hours later, I'm wide awake, half sitting up in bed. I'm a light sleeper (gotta luv kids :tongue) so at the slightest sound, I tend to wake up. And I sleep with my door closed.

I look over to the door and there's this shadow. I blink a few times thinkin' it's the moonlight or whatever but nah, this figure doesn't move and my bedroom door is open. They've got their hand on the door frame, almost like they wanna come in but don't...and it looks like our friend.

Since I dont know if I'm hallucinating or not, I sit up properly, just watching, expecting him to move or talk...something. But no...just stands there. I asked if he was ok. Nothing. If he needed something...nada. So by this time, I've decided, 'screw this, I need sleep.' Put my head down and yeh. Next morning, he's like normal. I asked him if he got up during the night and he gives me this look of 'huh?'. Says he passed out from the beers. :Wha:

I get wierd things happening a lot anyways. Electrical stuff and me aint a good mix either.

It's not too bad, but I was upstairs and when I walked out of the room, I heard a female voice. It said about two sentences I couldn't make out, and at first I thought it was my mother since it came from her room. But when I checked it, no one was there. So, I walked downstair's and asked my mom's boyfriend where she was. Turns out she went to the store about ten minutes before.

Also, I recently set up a Halloween prop for my party. It's a five foot tall witch that talks. One time, when it was unplugged, I heard it talking when I was in the other room. So, I went to check it out and saw that it was unplugged and the eyes were still flashing. That was when I was alone in the house.

The movie Splinter. Strongly recommend it. It was sort of an icky bug (creature) film that really was quite unique IMO.

I've had the DVD sitting on my shelf for a while, and just haven't gotten around to popping it in. I'll finally have to see it this week...

I don't watch horror, but OMG The Happening freakin freaked me out for days. Course it didn't help that my 5 year old sleepwalks and has that same expression on his face. *shiver* This is why I am a wimp.

My stepfather is a paranormal investigator aka ghost hunter. He has some fun stories.

Our house has an open floor plan. In the kitchen one afternoon and nothing is running- fridge didn't kick on, dishwasher empty, no running washer/dryer, a/c is off. Pure quiet.
Back to most of the house at the counter tapping away on the comp and I heard what can only be described as a loud exhale on the other side of a narrow wall separating the kitchen from the great room.
(I used to live in a haunted house, this isn't)
I looked, w/my eyes for the cat and he's outside in the sun.
I got up took the cell and thought, well holy crap, get out...hello, why are you still here??
Started walking to the back door b/c I'd have to pass that area for the front door or garage and I heard a loud 'exhale' again.
That was 2wks ago. Never heard it again nor did I ever figure out what it was.
And I'm sitting in the same spot typing this, moohoohaahaa.
*got up and moved*

I visited Savannah earlier this year and at night,it is one freaky city. I saw all kinds of shadows and things. Sighs on the winds, footsteps, you name it,Savannah has it. If you listen and stay up late enough, you see some odd stuff. I could have sworn that I saw a lady in the backyard of a house we passed by. But then,my imagination is always in overdrive.

Also,I visited to Jeckyll Island and I hoped I'd hear the chanting slaves my mother told me about. Alas,I heard nothing.

The other horror I had was when my friend dyed her hair crimson red. Lord, her hair was frightful and I was quite horrified. I gently led her to the nearest stylist.

Did you go to the Jekyll Island Club? I've stayed there several times, pretending it was my house. I spent several days there once, just sitting on the veranda, reading trashy books and sipping strawberry coladas.

Anyway, it's supposed to be haunted. I never saw anything, but it's got great atmosphere.

In Savannah, I used to go dancing every Friday and Saturday night and would have to walk back to my car in the wee hours through the squares. All that Spanish moss, big oaks and the quiet city lent great atmosphere too.

I've never been there, but I've heard of it. I love Savannah. It's creepy and beautiful at the same time. I live there now and my eyes are always open to catch something!

ok yeah i know i'm cheeting because it wasnt this year but it's probably the scarest thing that's ever happened to me.

When i was about 9 my aunt bought me a pretty irish dressed doll, and i was terrified of it. Something about its glassy eyes and little smurk freaked me out. Every day after school when i was home alone i would carry a knife with me whereever i went afraid the doll would try to kill me. One day my mom found out and put the doll away in the basement.
A few years ago when i was around 15 or 16 my mom found the doll in the basement and decided to prank me so the next morning i woke up and went to take a shower and when i opened the curtian there was the doll standing in the shower with a knife at its feet and i freaked!

Well this year I had myself a horror movie marathon over the entire month of October (31 movies, 31 days--I only made it to thirty, actually, but that's plenty). Only a couple really scared me: Ju-On (the original Japanese version of The Grudge); Night of the Living Dead (the final act, specifically, and now I've been bitten by the zombie bug--no pun intended); and Alien. All the others were more fun/silly than scary. Or just stupid.
