I have written all but the final couple of chapters of my first book on interior design. When I first got on this site I learned it was okay to query before finishing, great I could start working on those (direction #2). Previously I was going to finish first (#1). Well, now one must have a proposal (#3) ready before you query. After some studious hunting around this site it seemed I need to garner more writing credentials, so off I went researching freelance options writing for magazines (#4). I write for my own website, an unrelated newsletter and an e-zine but I figure those don't count.

This has all occurred in the last few weeks. I feel busy being busy but incredibly unproductive. I tend to get bogged down in doing something the "right way" to the point where the initial goal gets lost. So here I sit with too much information stumped at which direction to go next.

I'd like to finish my book and get it to an agent and publish it so I can start work on the next one! Am I too impatient wanting too much too fast? Do any of you have any thoughts on this confusion? A kick in the butt is fine, just point me towards a direction.

Writing your proposal is not going to take you out of this too long. It's just something you have to do because this is non-fic. Have two versions, one as brief as you can make it--try for under 3 p--and a full prop, detailing chapter by chapter, with a great market research section (Book X, released in 2005, did not include coverage of whidgets and spizelhiggers I detail in chapter seven...) You can keep finishing your book at the same time your working on your proposal. You're getting there, just keep going.

Ahh, thank you. It's not easy being green (new).

I school people everyday on not attempting their interiors without a plan, writing works the same way. Duh.

Yes, I've heard the proposal has got to be "killer" fortunately I wrote the outline prior to starting the book. Persuasive writing is fun so I'll enjoy the proposal task. Interesting idea on writing two.

Finishing the book first makes sense, I've got a certain rhythm going and logicial progression will give me order. Thanks for your time and guidance!
