Alright people. It's officially my favorite season and I'm dressing for the occasion. I'll be zombie Jane Austen for Halloween, what literary figure will you be while answering the door to the trick-or-treaters?

Out here in the boonies, we pretend like we might have trick-or-treaters and buy mini Snickers. We haven't had one kid in five years. You know where this is going...

When my first kid was small enought that I could steer him into the costume I wanted him to have, we'd dress up to match. We were both dogs when he was 2, bats at 3, a jaguar and zoo keeper at 4, then 5 threw me off. At 5 he wanted to be a Power Ranger and I wasn't in good enough shape to be a villian (there was a cool villian lady at that time who wore lots of black leather) and I sure wasn't going to be a giant Pink Ranger. So I was a Mummy. Worst costume I ever made - I dressed in white long underwear and wrapped myself in strips of cheese cloth...that kept falling off. Halfway through trick or treating my butt was hanging out...Good thing it was dark. After that night I just wear my witch hat and a black cloak. I also helps that we changed neighborhoods and now he has enough friends nearby to trick or treat with...

This year my oldest is going to be Dr. House (he's 10). It's a weird costume for a 5th grader, but we do watch a lot of House, so I guess it can be expected. I thought about dressing as a patient, but then changed my mind. Little brother is old enough to go trick or treating too this year, and he's going to be a lamb (to match his lovey).

somebody want to come and do my office for me? One of these days I'll have two work spaces rather than cramming all my stuff and hubby's stuff into one small area.

Had our first foster training class last night. One down, eight to go. So far so good.

Whoot! I got my Christmas present early! A new garbage disposal and hot water tap! Geez, both of the dang things sprung a leak last night and my hubby spent the rest of the night replacing them. Thank goodness hardware stores are open late.

Foster classes are over! We passed! now we have two more home studies and as long as everything in the house passes, we will get our licsense. Only one problem area - ground is too frozen to put in the fence for the play yard and we're broke, so we can't buy another gun safe. Maybe Santa will bring me a million dollars :p

What, if you're a foster parent the kids come with instructions? No fair! I'm havin' to wing it with mine. :D Good luck!!

just saw this ... yep it seems anyone with the parts can have a kid, but to foster one you have to take 27 hours of classes (at least here in Idaho) and jump through tons of hoops, including an FBI background check. Too bad I didn't know half this stuff with my own kid!

Me, maybe.

I'm bummed that I couldn't swing going to the Erma Writers' Conference this year. I highly recommend it if you ever get a chance.

BTW, I've mostly succeeded in losing my mind lately. Please let me know if you see or hear from it.

need help with my avatar

Ok all you computer geniuses, I need helpl I have a picture of the cover of my book I'd like to use as my avatar picture. Now, don't get me wrong, I love my current one that lostgirl made for me way back when, and I'll save it for future use.

However, since my first book was recently published I figure if I use it's cover it will be like passive advertising. I got a message the photo was too big. I tried to make it smaller in photo shop (a free version I'm sure) and while it makes the space smaller, it doesn't make the whole cover smaller. I end up with a portion of the book showing in a much smaller box.

Soooooo, if some of you geniuses could explain to me how to make it smaller I'd much appreciate it. Computer savy I am not. I can turn it on and find the internet, but my knowledge putters out soon after that.

Ok, sounds like you may have Photoshop LE, which comes free with some scanners (at least that's where I got mine). It's pretty easy to resize a photo!

You want to change the IMAGE size. Open the photo. Click the tab above that says Image. Scroll down, find Resize. Click Image Size. Set your resolution to 72 pixels per inch. (This is the resolution size for screens - but will look like crap printed on paper.) Now change the height and width to 4x6 inches or something of that nature. (Make sure to click the box that says "resample image".)

I'm running Photoshop Elements these days, so hopefully these instructions will help point you in the right direction.
