How is it that Q always knows exactly which gadget is going to be indispensible sometime in the next couple weeks? "Hmm, should I send 007 off with the glove box defibrillator or the little thing that looks like a pen but is actually a five minute supply of oxygen and shark repellant?"

I've wondered about that too but concluded that since James always looks so bored, we've only seen the most relevant portions of Q's presentation that actually lasted five hours. Through the miracle of hind sight being 20/20, the audience gets the benefit of an aggressive edit. James should be so lucky.

Why do women answer the phone in movies and put the receiver over there hair. Do people do this in real life? I only end up with a mouth full of hair

Another phone related one that I didn't pick up on was from a Finnish friend who was shocked when I said good-bye on the phone
'you said goodbye - Americans never say goodbye on the phone in movies'

And one I know the reason for but it drives me nuts, how they insist on wrapping presents by wrapping the top and bottom of the box. Who the hell wraps a present like that it would take forever!

Dear Trained Undercover Cops,
Please stop touching you ear to listen and pealing your lapel to your mouth to speak. We'll figure it out. This was addressed in Casino Royale but then they ruined it by way overdoing it.

So, what do you wonder about?
Why does Bond never get killed or wounded but he can kill the bad guy with one shot?
Why does the villain usually have some cheesy name and escaped from a mental asylum?
Why does Burton constantly choose Depp for his films?
Why do most casts these days consist of under-30 actors?

by extension:

In sci-fi, why don't they ever just kill the villains from space? Darth Vader may have been a bad guy, but he was smart enough to stay INSIDE the giant planet killing machine rather than beaming himself down or taking a shuttle and doing the dirty work in person.

Except in the case of Return of The Jedi. He came down to the planet in that one ;)

in supernatural thrillers, why is it always some castle or mansion? why not a beach house?

in horror, why cant the good guy be ugly and the villain look like a GQ model?

in a western, why dont they show the hero getting his funk on in a brothel?

Inquiring minds want to know.
