Did anyone see Ghost Whisperer on CBS, yesterday? I don't have CBS, unfortunately. I was wondering what y'all thought about the show.

I personally haven't seen it but heard it's a really good show. I taped it the other night and have yet to watch it...

I caught this show last night. Didn't expect much because I hadn't followed the news about the show over the summer. I was really pleasantly surprised. There isn't much of a horror feel to the show. It does deal with the paranormal. Jennifer Love Hewitt's character, Melinda Gordon, can see ghosts that haven't passed on. She passes on messages from them to those still loving. I really liked the show. Had a bit of a Touched by an Angel feel to it. I posted a bit more about it over on my MV blog earlier today if you're interested.
Is it sort of like that show Medium where she can see spirits? I know hollywood makes ghosts seem like "real" people, which is a rather interesting take. I do know real ghosts/spirits aren't like that (at least that I know of). I have dreamed of my late Grandfather whom I can actually communicate with. I could go on with this discussion/topic forever but I will stop now

There's a British show called "Afterlife" with a similar premise. It's absolutely dreadfully written. The scenario is "Medium can see spirits" but whenever the stories get into a hole, other people can suddenly see spirits and the plot is resolved. It's amazing no one sat down and questioned such poorly plotted stuff.
Then again, the standard of writing on British TV is pretty bad these days.

I don't watch GW. I heard it is a weak version if Medium, but I don't watch that either. There is supposed tobe some kind of backlash against GW since it replaced Joan of Arcadia.
I adore Wentworth Miller! he was in the pilot of Ghost Whisperer and ironically was in Arcadia, too. Actually I'm obsessed with Prison Break, and I didn't even what the ep of GW he was on!
I find it strange that the mainstream is jumping on the bandwagon with semi sci-fi or genre shows like Lost, Medium. I love The 4400 myself. I used to be obsessed with any genre show, and now I watch Prison Break and SVU, go fig.

Yes. I found the writing in 'Afterlife' a bit disappointing too. Shame, because it's a reasonable premise.

So far, I've really enjoyed Ghost Whisperer. It's one of my favorite shows, though I'd like to see it get a little darker. There's no way it can be called a horror show. But from next week's preview, it may well be doing this.

Odd. Does anybody remember a similiar I see Dead People show starring Matthew Fox? It premiered with Enterprise on UPN but disappeared quickly. I guess he's been on the wrong show at the wrong time and the right show at the right time.
British TV seems to play by a totally different set of rules. Doctor Who and Blake's 7 are some of my favorite classic shows. Even though they look so hokey, the writing and dialogue at the time was top notch.
And they wonder why Enterprise was canceled, with lines like 'Captain I've got something to give you a leg up!'
Who says that, honestly?!

Doctor Who is one of my all time favorites. Especially the ealry ones with Tom Baker. Just wonderful. Then again, I love British TV, and it makes up at least half of all my TV viewing.

Actually, I think the main difference between that show and "Ghost Whisperer" is the attempt at the tone of the shows. Fox's show tried to go with an eerie, horror feel to it which didn't sit well with most of the viewing public.
"Ghost Whisperer" goes with such a treacle feel to it that it's best served up as dessert. But quite good treacle. They're slowly starting to throw in darker and darker elements to the show, such as tonight when they introduced a 'guardian' who was waiting for an abandoned preemie baby to die.
