My book won't be published until 2010, but I have been trying different ways of increasing traffic to my site. Using Google Analytics, I determined that after I issues a press release to the first half of the free sites given about my forthcoming book, I got about 50 new hits on my website (peackedthe day of, and trailed off the normal buzz two days after). Just a data point for anyone interested.

Good to know, thanks for sharing the information. Who are those "viewers" that are coming from the press release to your site? Most likely media people, which is a plus. If they happen to be doing a story on your topic, they are more likely to give you a call and perhaps help plug your book. It has happened on several occasions for our books and authors.
