Hi Everyone,

At Bloomsbury's site it states:

Submissions
We no longer accept unsolicited manuscripts and cannot return material sent to us.

We welcome picture book manuscripts and queries for longer works, whether fiction or nonfiction
http://www.bloomsburyusa.com/media/SubmissionsUSA_kids.pdf

One place on their website says No, another place says Yes (with guidelines). Does anyone know for sure? Yes or no to unsolicted PB manuscripts?

I suggest you email and ask them.

When agents and publishers say they don't accept unsolicited ms, it usually means they accept only queries, and will ask for material if interested. But this seems to be saying that is the case for longer work, but ms are accepted for PBs. It's a bit ambiguous, isn't it?

Oh thanks qwerty - I am sure if I came across this I would have assumed "no longer accepting unsolicited manuscripts" meant that they were no longer accepting anything unsolicited, ruling out queries.

In this case though, it seems to make sense. They don't want to read a lot, and a ms for a PB wouldn't be much longer than a query for a larger work?

I seem to remember seeing something a while back on the Bloomsbury UK website, have no idea if the USA one is linked to the UK one or not, about not accepting unsolicited subs for children's books, although they are for other books (adult etc). This is going back a year or so, so you may have to check that. It could mean something similar for the USA one.

Send them a query then you can't go wrong.

They never used to say no to unsolicited so I think that may be the newest message. If they do not accept unsolicited they simply won't read your work and then you'll be hanging around for a response that may well not come.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your responses. I emailed them before posting the original question here.

Needless to say, I'm still waiting for a response. By the way, its the USA site that I am querying.

I'll keep you posted - should I hear!
