The name of my main character in my (already contracted) novel has to go. I need suggestions for a first name for her.

Facts: she's 26. She's a modern woman who time-travels to 1353 England.

Her name should reflect her age (no Lindas, Sharons or Kathies), her ethnicity (American of Scandinavian descent), and her birthplace near Chicago.

Her 1353 buddies must have a little difficulty pronouncing it, since the aristocracy in these times mainly speak French. If they mangle it in a funny way, that's fine.

It can't be Jessica.

Thoughts? Suggestions? I have no idea why I'm drawing such a blank.

I have a friend of Scandinavian descent whose name is Anneliese--a very pretty name, and very easily butchered. There's also Ericka...

My Girl Scout troop are 28 now. Names in the troop - Jennifer (2), Jessica, Melissa (2), Erin (2), Cheryl (2), Mary Ellen, Katie, Angie, Kayla, Keely, Erica, Kelly, Sarah, Frances, and a few more I don't remember right now (I had 25 girls - wow!) Plus one of the little sisters was named Margot which might be more along the line you're looking for. Puma

Thanks, everybody. I did the global-search-and-replace thing (thank Heaven for it!) and my character now has a new name: Bethany, suggested by my 14 year old. I tried Kristin first and it just didn't work for me as far as flow.

So my thanks to all who helped!

Shimiqua; Mowanda; Loquisha. (Chicago is rather more ethnic, and IMHO, you should take advantage of those types of names--names which didn't even exist thirty years ago).
