Great Commute Mojo

Picked this up not just because Will's a member here and I've appreciated his posts, but because it looked mind-bendingly cool.

I have a 70 minute bus commute each way to work in the morning. That's when I do most of my reading, needless to say. Some books make the trip take all day and some books make the trip go by in a blink. I'm sure everyone's experienced this.

Obedience not only made the bus ride go fast, it also seemed to completely debug the entire commute (no idiots on the road for the bus or my travel to/from the park & ride, bus picking me up on time, etc). That's some powerful mojo there.

And then it was a damned fine read on top of the commute mojo. What more could I ask for?

I'm recommending it to my boss's book club for their August selection. I think it's right up their alley.

Thanks, Will. Keep up the good work.

PS--how much for the secret of the commute mojo? ;)

I didn't read a lot of this thread because I haven't read the book yet, but what I did read made me even more excited to read it! I belong to an online reading book club thing that emails me a couple pages of new books every day for one week, and this was the mystery selection a few weeks ago. The first few pages were so great I had to stop myself from stopping and picking up a copy on my way home from work. No worries, I will buy it, ;) but right now there are several towering stacks of books in the house that I haven't read, so I promised my husband that I'd read at least a couple of them before I buy more. But I was thrilled to see that link on the front page from Will showing where the inspiration came from. I always enjoy finding out how other writer's ideas come together.

I ordered my copy a few days ago, should have it soon and can't wait to read it.

****POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS--READ AT YOUR OWN RISK****

Ok, so I read this last night. I read it from cover to cover in about 4 and a half hours, so, as you can tell I really enjoyed it. I was actually really getting into it, and thought it was well crafted, interesting, and a great read. In fact, I don't think I found a single dry spot in the whole thing.

HOWEVER, the ending was terrible...if I'm being honest here. It was a such a cop out and was THE only predictable ending to the story. I honestly think you should have made it a real thing with a real killer, and not just some "experiment". I felt really cheated by the ending, not only because it was my FIRST guess, but because it meant there was no real villain to the story, after spending the ENTIRE story leading up to the idea that SOMEONE was a villain.

The good news is, though, by the time we get to the ending, I didn't care if it was bad. The reading experience was fun and entertaining and it sucked me in and wouldn't let me go until I was finished.

I'm about 25 pages from the end and I absolutely love it. It's about 11:45 a.m. here and I'm fighting the urge to go ahead and take my lunch so I can finish it. It's a very rare book that still has me trying to figure it out this close to the end.

Just finished it. I suspected some duplicity at the end, but it still surprised me. Will kept the pace going throughout, and sensory detail was good.

Great job, Will! Good luck with your next book.
