corner desk in my dining room facing the window so I can see the very large cherry tree in teh courtyard between the four apartment buildings. (four stories high so it's very cozy and romantic, with paths and grass and a bench). Two Ikea wooden shelf boxes, those little things stacked on one side with three Todd McFarlane dragons on it. (it's a new passion that i don't plan to indulge anymore. I'm not a collector) Two Ikea drawer units on castors underneath the table and one next to it. my tower sits on the drawer unit next to teh table because the last computer was on the floor and died of a dust overdose. To the right of the drawer unit is a small Ikea tv stand with my tv on it, faced towards me, thus having its back to the living room. Yeah, I dont sit in the living room much. It's a two-story cathedral ceiling in the dining/livingroom with a skylight so it's very light and bright.

I can see my livingroom from where I sit and I enjoy my modern, minimalist furniture and two gorgeous postersized photographs that NickDangr sent me from Florida.my desk is covered with stacks of papers. It's messy but I know exactly where everything is. Behind me is the kitchen so it's conveniently close. The bathroom however, is upstairs so thats a pain to go to. I have to shut my computer off at night because my bedroom is open to the mainfloor and overhangs part of the living room, so the noise of the fan, while very quiet, still drives me nuts if i'm trying to sleep. PLus there's always the temptation to go back down and write just a little bit more.

My bedroom is my writing spot as that is where my computer is located. I'm utilizing a left-behind bookshelf computer desk combination and so I have about 40 books on all the shelves.

Mostly there are books somehow related to writing, grammar, communication, logic, some obscure older novels, nature books, photograhy, religion, painting, spanish and french language instructional books.

The "desk" space, which is very little, is hidden under piles of coffee mugs, more books, disks to download pics on and dictionaries.

Nothing is very comfortable about this space except that I love my books.

Ziljon wins. And what he doesn't know is that I'm on my way over to appropriate his writing space for myself. ;)

Anymore, I don't have a place set aside for writing. I just take my notebook (paper or computer) wherever and write. A lot of the time, however, I do sit down at an extension to my countertop in my kitchen. It's about the height of a dining room table, and I have an old office chair sitting behind it. I have a fancy cooling pad for my laptop, and when I write on the computer, I have that sitting on top of the "table" and I key in my words using the built-in laptop keyboard.

So basically, wherever I am, if I have some sort of writing tool handy, then I have my writing area ready to go.

I've noticed in my own case, it's a lot more conducive to good writing to be this way, than to use the old office style area I used to have.

I do wish I had a typewriter, though. Oh, well. I might get one again soon. :)

An L-shaped desk in the corner of an L-shaped room. Two LCDs, one in front of me, one slightly to the side in the corner. Windows to the left of my desk, bird feeders directly outside the window up high.

Five foot couch under the windows to the left, two storage cabinets opposite.

A desk behind me along the right wall (my kids' computer) followed by my wife's desk at the right foot of the L. A 72 gal. freshwater tank opposite her desk, on the inside of the L.

This is our "computer room" basically. Our house is the strangest house I've ever owned. It originally faced north on a street called Chance. The county closed the road and deeded the land to the owner, who proceed to do the weirdest "changeover", making the west side of the house into the front, and doing a series of interior changes over a decade or so.

The result is a few odd shaped rooms, like this one. The master bedroom is L-shaped, too, with a bedroom sized bathroom in its crook. Just odd, but hey, it's home. :)

It's a computer desk in a rather dark alcove off the living room. We call it the cave. Not very pretty but low on distractions and close to the coffee.

The spare room/computer room/storage room which currently has stuff piled up that was moved for our addition, a large roll of leftover carpet, two closet doors leaning against the wall, two screens that have been taken out to accomodate air conditioners, bags of hand-me-down clothes for my son which are still too big, and various items in rubbermaid containers. The chair at the desk is an old Ikea canvas director's chair which sits way too low despite the pillows stacked on it, and may be the cause of many of my typos.

One day, I shall have a library/office with all of the desired accoutrements.

The shed idea is interesting. Historian David McCullough has a really cool writing shed/office, too. And he forbids anyone disturbing him while he's working:
