referrals

I think what you are remembering is the case where someone asked what a 'referral' in their User profile was.

When a member joins, they can - when registering - indicate if a particular existing member referred them to this site and suggested they join. That is then shown on the existing member's profile as a 'referral'. Some folk have no figure for a referral, others may have a 1 or a 2 or whatever. It's just a side thingy - a wee gimmick.

You do nothing special if you want to tell someone else to join -just tell them to join.

Adding on to Bufty's advice, you can refer someone via a link that ends with your personal member number. sissybaby, your number/ID is 19818, so it would look like this:
http://absolutewrite.com/forums/index.php?referrerid=19818

Just get the new member to sign up using that link to the forums, and you'll get the referral credit added to your membership.

But what luxurious prizes do we receive when our referrals reach dizzying numbers? I mean, I refer people to AW a couple of times a day--surely some of them must take me up on it.
