PA accepts everything : confirm/deny

Remember someone from PA's acquisitions department started posting on the PAMB? There's a question for her.

Would love it if you could dispel the negative rumor that PA offers every submission a contract. Seen some chatter on the web about that, but I personally believe that it would be impossible for PA to publish EVERY submission. I am truly grateful that they are able to accept more than most, giving a lot of us an opportunity we could never (or hardly ever) happen.

Wow!!! What a way to slap down a newbie. I wonder how many copies of his tome he'll self purchase? I wonder if that bit of tasteless prose came from Miranda's fingertips?

Man, I just feel awful when I see something like that post.

That's not a good idea. You have ban happy moderators here. Or warn them in advance.

Leveling that kind of news at someone is quite a responsibility. And telling a teenager? No thanks. At least, not at the end of the school year. More damage to be done.

We can hope that a teenager will Google enough to find their way here.

Huh?

This publisher offers a wonderful alternative to self publishing. I actually looked into self publishing with, oddly enough, BookSurge, who I have learned from reading the PA boards is the "evil" printer associated with Amazon that is causing all the problems for PA. So glad I didn't go that rout!

Poor kid, a HS student. That's just awful. I hope he finds his way here. Maybe Uncle Jim or someone could get in touch some way.

I haven't posted much lately. The PA thing is just same ole' same ole'. Nothing changes. Newbs are overwhelmed with their glee, waiting for their proofs, covers, etc. Authors are banned for asking questions, some never to be heard from again. Maybe they never write again either. PA and some of their most infamous posters bully and abuse others. I just get really sick of it. I don't know if it will ever end or not. Their are too many writers out there who will sell their souls to see their words in print.

I've shared my story and then some over the past year. I don't know what else there is to do.

I feel so bad for the kid. It just turns my stomach.

One thing about youth, he is young and resilient. I think he will be okay.

No one is banned at AW unless they break the only real rule - Respect your fellow writer. And only after careful consideration and many warnings.

Personally I think the mods here are pretty benevolent. They take a lot of crap and don't get much appreciation.

Yeah, I feel bad for him too. I am also a teenager and I know what it is like to get sucked into PA. I think he will be okay. When I found out about PA, I was heartbroken for a day or two, but when I found out I could actually see my book on shelves if I got a legitimate publisher, I was happy with leaving PA. I am actually looking forward to being rejected by all those agents.

Marketing ideas
This works especially well in a traffic jam if you carry a box of books in the trunk. That way, you've literally got a captive audience you could sell them to.

I used to see someone driving around with the URL to their book's website and the URL to PublishAmerica plastered all over their car. Although when I saw it more recently the decals were gone. Perhaps the reality / royalty check had arrived.

I wasn't a teenager when I figured it all out and it still hurt. But be thankful that you figured it out now. You have the advantage of youth and the smarts to accept the truth. You will do great. =)

Thomas Xavier Speaks Out

Hello everyone! My name is Thomas Xavier and it is I who have been banned from Publish America's Message Boards for asking a simple royalty question. I thank you all for your support as I attempt to remove myself from their grasp. If anyone has any ideas on how to void a contract, I am all ears. Once again, thank you for welcoming me into your Absolute Write home.

Sincerely,

Thomas Xavier
