I love short stories, and even short illustrated stories such as the Dark Horse 'Book of...' series.

Is there a market for 6-10 page comic book stories?

I mostly write horror/fantasy and a mix thereof.

Thanks!

The indys always have anthologies going. But if you are thinking high paying markets that's out of my league...

Its seems that publishers and artists like to work with short stories, although consumers and bookstores don't like them that much. I dunno how many times someone has asked me, "Can't you do something shorter than 60 pages?!" And I have to say, "Sorry, I only work long, try a different writer."

Five to ten-page comics strips make up 30% of Murky Depths. We don't pay a lot but a complete finished 10-page strip will earn you £80 plus two copies of the issue your work appears in. It's the quality that attracts contributors though. Mixing prose, illustrations and strips sets us apart from many other mags. We lean more towards sc-fi/horror rather than fantasy.

Anthologies are a great way to get started, but don't really pay the bills (not that any comics do.) The SPX anthology is unfortunately "on hold" or I'd point you in that direction as well. Also, don't forget about alt-weeklies in your local city. If you've got something to show, and they like it, it's another great way to get your feet wet.

I thought this was only for people in the UK. Can anyone submit?

Yes, anyone can submit. Finding international reply coupons was a pain for me. They only take snail mail subs (until you're accepted at least). I had to hit the main post office in my town before I found any. I subbed two scripts and got rejects about 4-6 months later. I think they let the subs pile up until they need a few Future Shocks, then read the slush until they find the stories they need. I got a nice personalized reject on both.
