Crucial Age for Writers?

I was almost 50 when my first novel was published. I can't imagine what I would have written about in my 20's - even though even at that age I'd a very eventful life. But I lacked the maturity that only time can bring - observing the long-term consequences of actions, for instance, and simply the wider scope of humanity you experience the longer you live.
