So while I've lurked for years, I'm finally actually signing up for an account and jumping in to join the discussions. This seems like a very cool group of people!

My (mostly unimpressive) writing history: I wrote a novel and after much querying finally got a (legitimate) agent; got all excited about that; got discouraged when she couldn't sell the dang thing; started a new novel and am now toiling away at that. Not much exciting to report on that front. I love to read about other people's successes though.

In the meantime, I just started a grumpy fitness blog (like, two days ago) and would love some feedback if anyone wants to stop by. I think the link should be in my signature below. And if you stop by and want me to check out your blog in return, just leave a link in a comment and I'll be sure to check yours too and offer a comment.

Anyway, thanks to all the help everyone has provided throughout my lurking years, and I hope to actually start participating more myself.

Now - take a seat. What can I get you to drink?

Wow, is this a great board or what? Such nice people here!

It may take me a while, but I'm really looking forward to checking out people's blogs and visiting.

Just one question for y'all:

I've never done this blogging thing before, and now I'm totally obsessed! Between setting it up and trying to get visitors and checking out boards and visiting other people's sites and trying to come up with new posts, I'm turning into a crazy person! (In a manic, fun-crazy way, not an actual psychotic break seeing giant rabbits sort of way).

Does life ever return to normal after you start one of these things or are you folks all total nutbuckets too? I've been doing this less than a week and its already eating my life. (Again, in a good way).

And thanks so much for all the encouragement!

Welcome Crabby! I'm a newbie here too.

I'm not a newbie to blogging, however. So much of a non-newbie to blogging that I still refer to it as "online journalling" because that's what we called it back in the good ol' Internet days of 1997. Life after starting any kind of website changes, especially if you're mining your own life for things to write about. My blog / journal has always been strictly a "here's where I write about my life" kind of project, and life before it was very different from life after it. I began to see my life not only from the point of view of my own consciousness, but also was able to detach myself from it a bit and pick out what things would be interesting to outside observers. For a while, back in the late 90s, I probably got a little TOO much into making my life entertaining to others. I know I'm not the only journaller / blogger who lived her life for the sake of being able to write interesting journal entries about it, but, uhh, it's a hard thing to try to explain to one's therapist.

I think people who write topical blogs (as yours is) have it easier, because you can easily create red-light / green-light categories for what parts of your life are fair game for the blog, and which aren't. I'm planning a topical blog of my own soon, and I'm looking forward to giving myself some clear boundaries for my writing. Good luck with your blog! I enjoyed what I've read of it so far.

Welcome, Crabby. I, too, love reading all of the success stories here. It makes me feel more empowered to keep pursuing my publishing dreams.
