I don't think she was all that obscure in her day (and I just noticed that the OP said he was reading this, not writing it, so it may have been written a lot closer to her day). But I still don't think comparisons to other people describe as effectively as descriptions do.

That said, if it's 1st/close 3rd and the point is that the POV character thinks like that, it's different.

Yeah, I like that one, because all I could think of was the musician. Plus, it has a nice comic flow to it...

My brothers wife looks like singer Gene Simmons. I guess he is sort of an actor as well....
