No sympathy for the offenders. Obviously you don't get it. It's a WARNING that when you give the govt an inch, they take 5 miles.

If the laws aren't working, change the laws within the framework of the Constitution -- don't just shred it because you don't think it's working in certain cases.

Susan G.

There is precedent. People with mental illnesses are incarcerated against their will every day. According to the Supreme Court this withstands Constitutional scrutiny. Would you have the court abolished in order to right this perceived wrong? Kansas has had an involuntary confinement rule in place since the 90s, it too was upheld by the Supreme Court in June 1997. What is strange is that Thomas and Scalia ruled in favor of the Kansas law, but were the dissent in this case. This concept did not suddenly drop from the heavens, the issue has been fought back and forth for better than a decade.

Time out.

MOD NOTE: If we do some searching through past threads, we can see that we haven't debated anything in this thread that hasn't been argued before, here.

Now, it could be argued that, therefore, we aren't going to solve or decide anything in this one, either.

Maybe, maybe not. But it's a lot less likely if we start slinging insults at each other.

Take a breath, take a break, take a walk around the 'Cooler.

My thanks -- Williebee
