No, but this is writing. If you allow yourself the conceit that the withdrawal symptoms are conscious in some way (which you impliedly do in the way you have constructed the sentence in the OP), then there is no harm in using words which underline that consciousness for dramatic effect.
If you are writing an academic or factual piece about the topic, lose the language of fiction and perhaps steer clear of the conceit entirely.
