I have read it. I think it's a wonderful book.
Also, though I noticed the OP mentioned some Tolkien books, there's a Tolkien short story that might be worth looking into,
Farmer Giles of Ham. The story talks about a farmer who deals with a dragon named Chrysophylax. It's kind of a humorous story, but I enjoyed it, and maybe you will, too.
As for
Eragon, which someone mentioned elsewhere in the thread, don't let some people's viewpoint get in the way of making your own darned decisions. I personally like that book, regardless of what others have told me. If you read that book, it doesn't make you less of a person ... or less of a writer. Whether it's good or not depends upon whether you, the individual reader, like it or not.
