Hello, I plan to write a novel and am told to be particularly supierior to my fellow classmates in the writing aspect of school and or life. I love to write but when i try I cant find a good place to start. I try but I can't either introduce my character (in 1st or 3rd), Or just to start the story itself. With me being completely new to novels and coming out of short storys, I need to know these things. If anyone can spare some tips, I'd be more than grateful. Yes I am a new adolescent writer.

Thank you ahead of time.

Well, aside from the validity of your statement, I have found myself in a slightly similar position. You've stumbled upon this great site; all you need to do is go through some of the older posts. There's a lot of reading in http://absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6710

Good luck with your writing.

Just start writing. You probably won't know what the true beginning is until after you've finished the first draft.

You can play with POV in the revisions. You may write the first draft in 3rd person, the second draft in 1st, and the third draft back in 3rd.

Dive in. Put words on paper. Give yourself the clay that you're going to shape into a pot.

i'll concur with the above . . . espcecially with UJ. just write, start with no generalized plan, and let the story and charcters play themselves out. a good project will emerge when the characters live in your head and keep you up at night.
