O__o I just got my second full request this morning *dances* (the agent requested the full a half hour after I sent the query and five pages!!!) but she requested the manuscript in .rft format. What is that? I tried searching for threads on it, but the darn letter count limit...arg.

I have no idea how to change to format to .rft *explodes* Any help would be much appreciated and followed by worshiping and a plate of electronic brownies to be sent via rep points :D :D :D

Thanks so much!!

.rtf is the best format for exchanging text documents that need to be edited on both ends, assuming there's no ultra-special formatting.

RTF means rich text format. If you have MS Word or most other word processors, when you go to "Save as..." just change the file-type to ".rtf." It's as simple as that. If you have a different word processors (I use Pages) you may also find it as an option under "Export..."

RTF assures that anyone in the world--Windows, Mac, or Linux, can open your file without any problems whatsoever.

Although we really should start using .odt....

The other shiny thing about RTF vs formats such as DOC is that RTF can't really carry macro viruses (unlike DOC).

If you are using Microsoft Word it is very easy. All you have to do is go to "Save as. . ." and then go down to where they give you an option for different formats to save in. What you are looking for is "Rich Text Format" (.rtf).

In fact, I don't save my WIP in Word Doc format at all. Always RTF. I can use any word processor and also can send it via email without fear of virus, etc. It's also much smaller than DOC files.

Even worse for .doc, Office 2007 introduced .docx as the default file format, something that isn't immediately apparent. You can read .doc on 2007 but .docx is probably going to look odd on earlier versions (and most corporate systems will probably be running something like Office 2003, in my experience.)
