Hi friends,

I was checking out my book on Amazon and noticed that it's already discounted 30% (before it's even available). I was checking out the author tools and noticed that authors can become Amazon affiliates - so I joined. It says that I can earn 4% on click-through purchases which is nice I guess to recoup some of the discount. Basically, instead of just a link to Amazon, I have an embedded link that goes right to my book with some secret coding to tally up if someone actually buys the book.

Has anyone else heard of this or done this? It seemed way too easy which leaves me skeptical...or should I just rejoice that it was so easy and I will make a few extra bucks? Any thoughts?

You know, I've wondered about this, too. I don't have anything out there, but I thought it would be a good thing for an author to consider if she wants to make a few extra bucks on her books. I've seen some reviewers with their own Amazon stores who say up front they get a percentage of the profits (usually used to run the site, mail out things for contests, etc.) and that's when I started thinking about it. I say, why not do it? They're your books, and you deserve to get as much out of them as you can--you've got bills to pay, after all. I'm sure you'd still have to pay taxes on them (please correct me if I'm wrong, anyone!), but I think the extra income would pad your wallet just a bit more, and there's nothing wrong with that in my opinion.
