Can anyone start a new game here?
If so, I'd like to propose one. Write a poem using the line given. Then offer a favorite line from one of your own poems, and see in what direction the next person can take it.
First line: And we danced, wild, fair, and free
(If not, never mind.)

It was a night of endings;
beneath the fullness of the moon
we breathed the joy of youth
and we danced
wild, fair, and free.
We counted our tomorrows
like currency;we numbered,
named, and promised
each in its own value
to share again and again.
It was a night of beginings
kissing our hopes and
letting them fly
into the cool, windy
sky to drift and land
in another scene
removed from now
pulling the past
through to days
yet unlived.

We are more like stone than the sea would be if it stopped.
Nothing to add here, just popped in with NP and had to say how beautiful that was ddgryphon. Don't let anyone talk you into changing a thing.
The heart is a lung in the world,
inhaling, exhaling the day's decline.
We are more like stone than the sea would be if it stopped,
more like the moon in its death than the sun bursting forth.

With a tongue full of leathery scorn

this is how I
rebuke the
death dealers
the merchants
of mechanization
that crush the
life from the earth.
This is how I
struggle, how I
fight for the voiceless
land with a tongue full
of leathery scorn I
pitch barbed words
designed to prick
and bleed the evil from
their sallow skin.
Or at least to
pierce the lungs that
give them breath to live.

See how my dark girls sally forth.

See how my dark girls sally forth,
Hoping to earn what they're worth
See how my dark girls sally forth
Early in the evening.
See how my dark girls dress tonight
Dresses sprayed on spandex-tight
See how my dark girls dress tonight
Early in the evening.
See how my dark girls look at you,
Weighing up, through and through
See how my dark girls look at you
Midway through the evening.
See how my dark girls try again
Bringing home countless men
See how my dark girls try again
All throughout the evening.
See how my dark girls come to me
Count it out so I can see
See how my dark girls come to me
At the end of the evening.
See how my dark girls haven't enough
It's not my fault if I got rough
See how my dark girls haven't enough
After their last evening.
Is the trade worth it, then?

I prayed
for an end to apathy
to rekindle the spark
It was answered
with acrimony
a flaming rage
burnt me to ash
defiled
in the moment of discovery
then slowly
through great suffering
rising like the Phoenix
renewed
Is the trade worth it, then?
O,yes!
