Greek translations needed

I need just a few Greek words in my current project, and while I can find the online translators, I never trust them wholly.

The terms I'm needing are "royal guard" and "captain" (as in captain of the guard). The best I can come up with is fylakas for guard, and basilikos for royal. I don't know how grammar works in Greek, so I don't know if the adjective should come before or after the noun. I also don't know how to construct plurals, so what would "guards" be?

And as for "captain" I get several different results, and I don't know which is the one I actually want. Archigos, maybe?

Actually, I just need to name the men who guard the ruler of the city, but I need to do it in Greek.

Are you writing about ancient Hellenic civilizations, about modern or early-modern Greece, or about a fantasy world for which you're using Greek titles?

I use Babelfish for things like that. It's very easy to use. I think what you may be looking for is φρουρά βασιλιά

*grin* I need the latin alphabet, not the greek alphabet.

And my problem with Babelfish is that it translates literally what you type in. It doesn't help me in matters of grammar. (ie: Adjective before or after the noun)

"Basiliki froura" means "the guard of the king" in modern Greek.

Now, in modern Greek, the word for "captain" is "kapitanos" so no joy there. The ancient Greek leader of a 100-person unit of footsoldiers was a lokhagos.

And how do you do plurals in Greek?

"Basilissas froura" would be "the queen's guard."

Plurals of Greek nouns differ by declension and by where the accented syllable comes. This is a good website with the declension charts.
