I'm On A Writer's High!!!

I am sure you guys get these...you get over a hump, you push past writer's block, and you pound out thousands of words.

Or maybe you only finish a scene, but it's such an intense scene, and you know you nailed it!

Well, today was one of those days.

I love that my job is so boring because today, while being paid to be an admin assitant, I typed 6000 words of my WIP.

So I am on a high right now! I just texted my husband and told him that when I get home, we're toasting to 6,000 words!

Here's to hoping ya'll are on the writer's high too!

I'm the opposite at the moment, I could hardly get myself to write over 200 a day in the past three days.

That was me last night. When I finished up a manuscript. I was so stoked I listened to Space Hog "In the meantime" while throwing back a few glasses on wine.

Congrats, AC. These days, I've riding a similar wave. I spent ten months struggling with the first four chapters of my WIP, tearing them up and tossing them out and putting them back and rewriting. When I finallly thought I had it, about a month ago, I told myself I'd just floor it and push on without stopping. Six more chapters later, I'm looking toward completing my rough draft, maybe within another couple weeks. That's gonna feel gooood.

Congrats. I think my best to date was around the same...5,000 to 6,000 in a day. But my average is only about 1,000 to 2,000, so that's definitely a very prideful accomplishment.

Way to go! I love days like that!

I think my biggest word count day was 5500 and it about killed me. Right now, I'm on an editing high which is an awesome thing, because it's the tail end of revising & editing, so every day is a high for me right now!

Whoop whoop! Highs rock - kudos to you!

It's rare for me to reach 6,000. In my last WIP I started churning out as much as 7,500 on my highs, but that was a while ago. This WIP is a lot harder. *shrug*

I assume you know this already, but I'm going to say it just in case. DO NOT under any circumstances let your employer know you wrote while at work. Do not. Very bad idea.

While I was working for Tyco Electronics, I asked one of their corporate lawyers about working on IP during work hours--say, when I'm bored and the boss won't give me anything to do. They have a claim to that IP.

I worked for the Disney Store in high school. The contact I signed with them not only gave them rights to anything I came up with (written down or otherwise) while I was at the store, but also rights to anything I did in my free time. Yikes!

I always ferret out and decline those clauses in employment agreements. I point out to my new employer that I own and operate multiple side businesses, and am under contract to provide services for existing clients through those businesses. The IP assignment clauses in the employment agreement represent a conflict of interest, and I cannot agree to them.

I have never had an objection. Indeed, my last two employers have had a previously prepared contract on hand with those clauses omitted... indicating, to my mind, that they actually anticipated I might refuse them.
