I've been revising my novel's first draft and having fun playing with the order of scenes. In the original version, something would happen, the characters would discuss it in the next scene, something else would happen, more discussion, lather, rinse, repeat.
My first draft is also too long, so I've been trying to compress the action by cutting down on some of the discussion. Right now it feels like I'm working a jigsaw puzzle and discovering a new picture each time I shift a piece. By changing the order of events and not giving my characters time to think before needing to act, it ratchets up the suspense considerably.
Anyone else play around with the order of scenes?
